Default boa help please

hi
sorry but 2 questions
i fed my boa wednesday, today i picked her up for the first time and she doesnt look like she has digested it prorerly yet, i fed her a mouse that the shop gave me and said would not be to big but when i fed it to her i think it was, so i,m going to get smalller ones, within 1 miniute of holding her it was if she was sick, small drops of liquid came out of her mouth just like water any advice what this could be, temps are fine and shes been her normal self, she seems fine now and she hasnt brought the mouse back up, i was looking to move her to a new viv i have built but i,m going to hold of for a couple of days, she is about 4 to 5 months old and is a red tail any advice welcomed

can any viv builders tell me what size heat bulb would work best in a 5lx2wx3h viv or any one with this size viv what they use to heat it
cheers

Could she have been having a drink before you picked her up?

Prey items should be no bigger than 1.5 times the largest part of the snake. This often means that prey looks large when they have it in their mouth but that they are more than capable of managing it.

That viv sounds rather large for a four month old bci/bcc (if that is the one you were planning to use!?),as they like to feel secure. You would need lots of hides, logs and greenery imo, if that were the case.

Is it a true redtail boa? Are you sure your temps are right ? Three days should be enough for the boa to digest it if they are. With my redtails I like to give them a food item that is only about the same size as the largest part of the snake.

A 5lx2wx3h is a big viv, surely you aren't going to put a 5 month old boa in that are you ? My female red tails have 6x2x2 vivs, but they are around 9ft. They're heated by 250w ceramics.

hi mate
as i picked her up it looked as if you could see the mouse in her still but once she released the liquid and put her down she looked fine, normal size
i feed her the same just over her body size but the shop only had a bit bigger than this but they said it would be fine, it wasnt much bigger than usuall because i wouldnt of fed it to her, the temp at hot end is 87 at the hotest point and just over 80 in the coolest end
the new viv she will be going in is big but i,m putting loads of hides in to make her feel secure, i've built the viv into the room so i have had to build it for when she is grown up not just now
but thinking i might buy a small viv and put her in this and then put that in the big viv
how many 250 ceramics do you need to heat your 6x2x2

I need just one 250w ceramic in the vivs, but the room is normally around 80F. You've been a little bit previous, building a viv to use in 3 years or so, even then it might look a little lost for a while !

Hi There.

Several things you have said, and not said, are of concern to me here, which I will go though now, but first of all will say that it really does sound as though you picked your boa up directly after it's taken a drink. That means that either the mouse is still whole inside the boa, which is a possibility if it's remained on the cooler side of it's enclosure, or that it's fully digested now. If partly digested the fluid regurged would have been a brown colour.

Could you please say what you are keeping your boa in at present? and give the exact floor temps at both ends? and the air temps at both ends too? as your temps sound too low for a red tail.

Could you also state where your boa is spending most of it's time please? If you have a hide at the cool and hot end? and what form of heating you have at present? and how you have the heating positioned?

The answers to the above questions will help everyone to form a good picture, and they will then be able to give you some quality advise.

Mo.

PS Congratulations on your new snake. Boa's are a very rewarding species to keep, and when you have everything just right for them, can live for many years.

i did the living room up and made it a fitted unit, probably have fallen apart by the time shes big enough
i have fitted a 250w and best temp i'm getting at the moment is 80f all over, i think i need something to direct the heat down as the height of viv is 2.5
