Beautiful snake . Can I ask why they need to be wild caught? Are they not bred in captivity? Just interested. Good luck with taming, don't think I would fancy being tagged by that!

im pretty sure the 1st captive bred selayers hatched not so long ago
(this year) in the u.s.a,

plenty of patiance needed, lol,

i have some wild caught makassars and they were very aggressive,
specially the male, so much when you opened his viv he would shoot out of his hide and the viv to attack you, he would bite, hold and constrict, there was no letting go with him, but with heavy duty gloves to begin with ,and patiance handling for short periods, make sure you keep them away from your face, lol, they have a habit of when being handled roaming up your arms and around shoulders,
in time they will hopefully become tame
mine dont even hiss when handling now, dont be detered if there a bit bity to begin with

when are they being aggressive,
when entering viv to get them out?,
all the time?,
ok to begin with then strop after a few minutes of handling?

nice selayer! although i dont necessarily agree with snakes n adders descrition of them being a giant, in fact everything i have read points to them being a mid sized retic, the recent c.b clutch in the u.s were all very small animals straight from the egg. Its good to see some one keeping a retic thats aggressive and perservering with it, patience and time should hopefully give you a wonderful snake, if you ever get a mate for it and breed, let me know, i would be very interested in a c.b selayer

gota agree with matty (ern&79) on this on, im sure they were being reclassed as pythons reticulatus sepaturi ? and were on the smaller scale of retic some say dwarf, but we,el have to wait and see,

sounded exactly like my female, bad on gettung her out, good for a few seconds, thats the time were hes thinking this guys gonna feel my teeth, then bad again,

my male just bad all the time

i have never done this but what about hooking the retic out of viv, seeing how he responds to that, might be calmer than taking him out by hand,
worth a try, that will possibly stop one area of aggressivness, then its just
the final part to deal with,i usually handle for a few mins on new additions
they soon learn your no threat to them, and a quality relationship will begin

use gloves, keeps the carpet clean of blood, lol

if hes not crapping on you aswell as biting its a good start,

he might be being defensive, bite, release, rather than being aggresive biting and holding on for dear life, just keep working with them,
they will soon chill down, keep us posted on anything your trying and how there calming down,
stew
