Default ATB feeding advice

I'm sure many have seen my new snake topic with pictures of the beauties I picked up at a steal.

The male is a excellent size but because the female was a fussy feeder when young and regurged if the meal was slightly too big, shes quite far behind the male.

I was wondering if feeding her every 5 days would be ok, so she has a chance of catching up with the male?

He's on fuzzies and she's only on pinkies at the moment. I threat that if I try 2 pinkies at once she'll regurge the whole lot.

Your advice please.

If more frequent feeding of smaller items (assuming she will take them) equals the same overall food intake it will do no harm. Unless it is taken to extremes a bit of extra food won't normally harm a young snake anyway. Of course you will eventually want to move her onto bigger prey items as she grows.

There is a lot variation among individual snakes - one of my 07 ATBs eats twice as often as the other 2 but takes similar sized meals and is doing well. The idea of 7 day feeding schedules is a human one - snakes haven't read the caresheets and they certainly don't eat on a 7 day schedule in the wild so vary the regime and see if your snake does well on it.

I'd just carry on feeding on a normal regime. Theres no need for her to 'catch up' just let her get on as she is

Thanks for the help.

Will do a few more pinkies I think, then try and find some smaller fuzzies to try her on.

I'd like her to get growing so I can move them to proper vivs where I can have the temperature more accurate.

ATBs are damn hardy little snakes and their habitat varys amazingly across a huge range.

Thanks! Thats put my mind at rest

Problem is the parents don't bohter putting the heating on much so my room tends to sit in low 60's So trying to get there temps up with a heat mat has been a mission.

I moved the sensor higher up and put some pond liner over the front of the cabinet last night which seems to of done the trick.

Temps on the bottom are mid 90's and the top of the boxes are mid 80's.

I was going to find a small tank or cabinet to stack the tubs in and put the heat mat on the back instead.

Mid 90's is HOT! No need for temps like that! I keep mine approx 86F hot end, 80 cool.

Bit lower at night

Oops! All the info I read said they like it at 95F basking point.

I'ved turned the stat down slightly now. I'll give it a few hours and see what figures it comes out with then.

Yer no need to worry about the night temp drop here, the houses heating does that for me....

It's certainly around 86 near the bottom, but only mid 70's nearer the top.

So far the males sat on his branches up top and the female sits on the floor.
