Cool JCP's RUB + a question!

Hey everyone

I moved my JCP, Sydney, into her new home yesterday. It's an 84 litre Really Useful Box. I think they're brilliant! I also have a question. Sydney's on hopper mice at the moment, and she weighs about 80g. When should I wean her off of mice and on to rats, and what size rat should I go with?

Thanks in advance

David

And here's the pictures (there's multiple hides on either side, but all of them apart from the Exo-Terra cave are obscured by the big leaves, lol):

Great pics and nice set up. My jcp is in a rub too and she loves it. I made her a # shaped grid of bamboo and she sits on it for hours.

Reference rats, you could try her on a rat the same or similar size as the mice she currently eats. Then if she happily (and easily) eats that, go up a size.

My jcp eats ratpups, she is an 07, approx 24" long but not sure what she weighs. *must weigh her later me thinks*

I would get her onto rats ASAP. The longer you leave it the more of a pain it becomes.

From the picture it looks like she could take small weaner rats. Morelia are remarkably stretchy and can take suprisingly large prey for their sixe. As a guide though, don't offer anything larger than twice her girth as it increases the likelihood of complications such as prolapses.

start her of on weiners then make you way up... if you keep her on mice too long she will end up only eating the ...Jungles are well known for not eating rats.. some of mine will and others hate them

Thanks everyone!

With all due respect guys, I don't think she could take weaners. At her widest point she's only about as thick as a thick pen. Besides, the jump between weights would be huge, considering hopper mice are only about 10 grams, and the average weaner is like 37.5 grams. From the looks of it, she'd be okay with rat fuzzies, but they're difficult to get hold of unless I order online, which I don't like to do (I'm out in the day, and I've ordered next day before, and by the time I picked them up they were completely defrosted.)

I guess I could ask my local store to order them in, but if not, can you recommend a good online source of feeders?

Just for an idea of scale, I'll post a picture showing her against a DVD case.

Aww she's ickle!

My Brb was about the same sise when i started him on rat pinks and now hes quite happily chomping rat fluffs. I would recommend getting rat pinks/fluffs if you can.

My JCP started on mice until i got him to the size to take rat pups, i didnt have any worries changing over, he struck his first rat the same as he used to strike the mice. I would have started him on the pinks though if they had been available at the time.

Afraid i dont know of any online shops that sell them, i found a local shop that started ordering them in .

Thanks, that made me smile She is ickle, and she's so cute! She's never once shown a hint of aggression, and she's obsessed with my nose (I can see her sampling it one of these days).

Okay thanks, what weight are your rat pups, and where do you get them from? Because I've seen different weights from different sources. The fuzzies that I'd get would be 10 - 25g.

Lol mine was a bitey lil so and so at that age, your lucky. I love them when theyre that tiny, with thier big googley eyes, so cute!

As for size of pups, at that age both the BRB and my JCP were taking food around the 10-13g mark if not possibly slightly smaller, i didnt used to weigh the food just pick ones out that were slightly larger than the width of the snakes body.

Okay thanks

I'll bump her up to rat fuzzies after this final course of hoppers (I bought another 4 yesterday), and I'll just ask my local store to order them in for me.

She is very nice. Looks like mine but smaller. I love carpets and yours is lovely. I love those giant leaves too, do you mind me asking where you got them from as I have never seen them before. I hope you manage to get her on rats, mine wont eat rat pinks without fur so I have to wait even longer before I get her of mice wich will be a pig to do. Any way good luck with her.
