That is a link and it shows the exact type of thermometer i had. You can see the silver balls at the bottom of it. They are the balls that came out and got spilled.

Oh, thank goodness for that.
I have just taken the tank outside a given it a right good clean with the jet washer. Hopefully, if it was mercury, there is none left now. I really hope its lead. Anyone know why lead is used in thermometers?

It reacts well to heat I suppose. Expands pushing the liquid up the tube.

Sorry I thought you meant mercury lol. I dunno why they'd use lead. Maybe like a weight for like fishtanks.

The lead is possibly just to keep your thermometer the right way up in a fish tank and not part of the temperature recording at all. If floating it keeps the right end under water to get the correct temperature.

Well the snake is away so I just hope that when i go downstairs in the morning, shes still with us. thanks for all the help guys.
