Default Thermometers, are they toxic ?

I was cleaning out my snakes tank and the thermometer which was stuck on the glass fell off and broke on the base of the tank!
The red liquid in the thermometer didnt come out but the little silver balls at the bottom did.

Are these little balls toxic in any way?
I did remove all the balls from the tank but could they have an effect on my snake.

please help !

If it's mercury then yes. If it's liquid crystal then it's safer than mercury but I don't know how toxic it may be.

I believe mercury (as that sounds) is highly toxic. If you google mercury spillage it comes up with lots of quite scary advice. I would have a good read before considering putting your snake anywhere near it.

Sorry if I am wrong and it isn't mercury but better safe than sorry

i had one in my fish tank that only had the one suction cup and therefore could rattle off the tank wall. my big plec done just that and smashed the thermometer. i managed to get all the glass out and i done a regular clean but i doubt i managed to get the balls out and i've had no problems with the fish in the tank. that was about 5months ago.
not sure how toxic they are or if my sump filter would have taken care of the toxins but i thought i would let you know

I used to play with mercury out of thermometers when I was a kid (very dangerous I know) and it is basically as heavy and looks like metal but is a dense liquid so if these little balls are like that dont touch it and don't put your snake near it!

Dont let your snake anywhere near. And scrub the vivarium.

No, the balls were not squishy. In the thermometer there was a red liquid which i asume would be mercury?

I will have a good read on the net though.
