sorry to hear this... happened to me first time breeding corns, resulted into a very bad prolapse and being put to sleep.

luckily with ants on the way back from the vets that night, she was perked up... looked abit sad the way she was sitting, but hopefully 3 weeks or so she will be herself again!

Hopefully your girl will pass it with the oxytocin!! Too much can be a worry though

Good luck

Not read the rest of the thread Nigel, so hope your snake pulled through ok.

One thing I would say about snakes dying eggbound is that it's normally from the keeper not realising the snake was due to lay and not providing a suitable nest site is good time.

i know mate lol.. only just noticed this comment as i have an update on some info.. i think the rule is stupid aswell.

on the 15th may, i had a female lay 16 eggs.. 5 years old, she MIGHT just about be 3 ft. but there is no way on this planet she was near 300 grams before laying.. she had 16 good eggs, all small but look good so far. so there ya go.. just another bit of proof. and if you want more, ant off this forum was given a snake that laid eggs the day after ( i think it was).. anyway, its laid about 10 eggs, i saw them last night... well, this female was 87 grams after laying.. all eggs are massive and perfect, female recovered well and ate right away..
so how about that lot for your rule of 3 lol

Before I bred corns for the first time I was told my female was fine to breed at 18 months (before I found RFUK). She was healthy but not big, I don't suppose she was anywhere near 300g but she produced 18 perfect eggs all of which hatched and again this year she's laid 17 all of which have hatched again (last 1 out today). She'll be 3 in September this year.

I have always wondered who tells them all these rules in the wild.

Well the rule of threes doesn't work for me.

I accidentally bred a female too young last year and she had 10 healthy eggs and was fine.

This year my 5 year old 450grm female died for no apparent reason whilst due to lay. Only time will tell if the eggs I recovered are any good.

Also my other female had dystocia and she is the "required" size, age etc and had all the proper care needed! She is now doing well.

I guess like most things it sometimes works and is fine as a guide but is by no means the be all and end all!!!!

i think pauline, its just there as a guide so newbies dont over do it on females. in the wild corn females breed from 10 months, at that age in thre wild they wont be as big as in captivity.. so inh most cases that age they will be far less than say 100grams.
ant for me over the years has been a fine example.. i know a few on here have slated him, but at the end of the day it their opinion, i for one would never argue with ants results.. the guy gets 100% every year, EVERY year.. work that out, and i wouldnt think he often has a female over 300 grams.
of mine, i have the one that i just mentioned that laid, i also have at least 2 others under 200 grams but 5 years that are gravid.. one is under 200, i didnt breed her.. she have used retained sperm, so i have no idea what to expect from the clutch, and there is no point asking the person i got her from, there is no chance of them knowing as they have many hundreds of breeding females.
she was flying around the viv yesterday looking for a box.. obviously i had been feeding her up to try and breed her this year, but still i dont think i would have, not under 200 grams. so we'll see how she gets on.. shes obviously proven. my guess is she'll lay 10-12 good eggs, although i expect them to be small.

i THINK i must have closed the thread by accident there.. checked the reports and no one seems to have complained.. just incase though, if another mod did close it, do it again if needed..
and just incase, i'm not telling people here to go out and breed 100 gram females, moire just saying if it happens then dont panic.. any snake can get eggbound and any snake (almost) seems to be able to lay without issues

A couple years ago I had a Normal that was close to 6 feet long and weighed nearly a kilogram. I bred her and about a week or two before she was expected to lay, she pushed out a big gelatinous mass of what looked like what should have formed eggs. It still looked like she had a few eggs inside her though and I was told she was just getting rid of the ones that were bad. She died less than a month later...
This year I had a Snowcorn that is barely 3 1/2 feet and just around the 300 gram mark (she eats, just not a very big snake) give me 17 perfectly good eggs...
Out of the two of them, I would have expected the Normal to be the better breeder, she was big and very healthy (up until then). The Snow is small and seems slim for her age. But have had no problems with her what-so-ever...

Sorry to hear about your Corn Nige, hope the rest goes well...

Steve
