Exclamation viv to snake size

viviarium to snake size
is it ok to put a hatchling milk snake in a 3 foot viv. There will be plenty of hiding places and the snake will be put into a smaller container when feeding. but will this cause the snake any undue stress?

obviously i have heard cetain snakes do not adapt to larger spaces when young. but surely the bigger the space the better. as in the wild its not like snakes are confined to a 3 foot radius is it.......

your views welcome

in one sense "no" but in another "yes"

depends on how many hiding places and plants as cover there is

but personaly i would keep it in a rub or similar tub untill its big enough to go in a viv

my milksnake is well grown on from hatchling size but won't be in a three foot viv for another month yet.Hachling should be ok, like Jamie C says, just make sure it has a lot of places to hide and plenty of plant cover. As long as the viv isn't too open you should be fine. another way to house it would be to put it in a faunarium inside the viv, faunis only cost about a tenner and the snake will be more secure in there for the first several months.

A hatchling will easily escape through the gap between the glass doors so it's a NO!!!

Course you can. What happens in the wild? Just make sure there are loads and loads of hiding places. Maybe trying to recreate the natural habitat is a good idea.
However they are very good at getting through the gap in the glass. Make sure the hole is covered and it should be fine.

im not having a go at anyone and your opinions are all welcome. but from what i can see is that there are alot of mixed opinions. This is my first snake and dont want to get it wrong. i am very passionate and it is a learning curve.

so instead of opinons could someone adivce me who has had history of doing this.

once again this is not a dig just something that i need to get right

Personally, I'd keep the Milk in a Faunarium or a RUB until it's big enough to:

1. Be unable to escape from a conventional wooden vivarium

2. Be comfortable with the space and size of its surroudings.

In a smaller tank, it'll be easier to find both the snake and its faeces. The snake will feel more secure, and also, it'll give you some more time so you can save some money and turn its future enclosure into a little corner of nature.

I hope that helped

David
