Default Viv Alarms

When one my Royals accidentally slid open the glass on his Viv just by rubbing alongside it, I bought some locks which turned out to be too thick to slide in between the sheets of glass on the viv. Actually there is barely room to slide a piece of card between them so looking around for an alternative to locks, I came across these.

They are sold as household alarms for doors and windows and are very cheap ( I came across mine in one of these "Poundland" shops where everything costs a quid)
Stick one side to the glass,(no screws needed - they come with double sided tape) the other to the frame of the Viv, switch on and if the door is opened some night when you are fast asleep, and contact broken, believe me you'll know about it as these wee things make enough noise to waken the dead (mind you, probably waken any neighbours within a hundred yards too ).

You could outfit a whole load of Vivs for the cost of just a couple of locks.

does this lock the viv also or does it just make a noise when it's opened? Just thinking cos if you're out you won't hear it!

Oh no, my worst nightmare!! I would wake up every 5 mins listening for it. We have thermostats that make a racket if temps drop, they scare me half to death

persoanally i prefer the old fashion locks they keep snakes in and kids out!!

as an alternative, have you tried the rubber door wedge things? yo can get small version that fits the vivs, and again if you shop around you can prob get em for a quid. not used em befor so dont know how reliable they are.
anothoption is to glue a small hoop, knob of some sort and use string, looped through a tiny hole in the side of the viv, cheap silent and should keep snakes in, though maybe not kids out

We have one of them on the door at work and they don't lock, they just make a noise when the connection is broken.

I only ever "secure" the Vivs if I am out of the house (then I have to use wedges). The alarms were basically to reassure "she who must be obeyed" , who tolerates as opposed to likes snakes and kept asking about our bigger Boa "what happens if that thing gets out at night when we are asleep".

From what I have heard about some of the bigger constrictors, its not unknown for them to be capable of pushing the glass out of its runners. Lock wouldn't help much then.

You can actually get remote controll ones, so when your about to go out, press the buttons and it sets, when your going in the viv, press the button and it un-sets
