Unhappy Giving my Boa back this morning

Well... Im taking my Boa back to the breeder i got her from this morning, Shes got alot worst over the last few days..

She has started stargazing like she did about 6 weeks ago when i first got her & last night she was laying with her head upside down & she is still in the same position this morning ..

She keeps refusing to feed & is loosing strength, She needs to be assisted again like before.. I just dont feel that i am knowledgeable enough to look after her & i feel with me she wont get better.. I dont want her to die

Im moving house soon so that will be another stress she doesnt need, Its for the best i feel.

Awww, bless ya!! Sorry to hear that mate. Sounds like she is not well again though.

I hope the breeder will take her back to the vet to see if she does still have the ri or heaven forbid, something worse (not saying the word!).

the boa at work or the boa at home?

If it's the boa at work the two royals may also be at risk, would suggest taking a fecal sample to a vet at the very least.

Even if it's the one at home cross contamination is a real worry, depends how careful you were/how carefully your quarentine new arrivals.

It's a real shame, would you mind dropping me a PM to let me know the breeder concerned? If there is anything else youy'd like to know then feel free to ask.

I realise no one is saying it but it's daft not to.

there is every chance this is nothing to do with IBD, anything from being kept too hot to an infection can cause star gazing, it can be a sign of nerological problems as well as physicaly problems. most cases of stargazing are not IBD, it's merely one possibility out of many.

Like I say feel free to drop me a PM if you need any more advice.

Aww, that is awful.. poor you

IDB is not very common but it does happen. Mason is right though, you do need to consider the other snakes. x

That's very sad. I've seen a spinal injury do similar on a baby boa that was damaged by mum when laid, took a while to present itself fully (and for an instant, did look a bit like IBD, panic!) but was definitely due to a crushing injury on the vertebrae at the top of the neck in the end. Had to be PTS, if they have neurological or spinal damage there's really very little they can do to survive

If it was IBD and there are royals in the same room I would be expecting them to be dead, or presenting symptoms by now? Unless they are quite far away... but I know a breeder in the states who actually tests for IBD by placing a royal next to the boa and seeing if the royal is dead in 48 hours... and it saved his collection twice (not very nice for the poor royal though) and I think the problem is more common in the USA too.

it is more common in the staes, and is indeed very common for breeders to keep the odd normal royals hatchling and adult acattered about their boa collection, cheap and cheerful canaries.

Cruel? only if you completely ignore the fact that the one royals life could save literally thousands of snakes from being destroyed, not to mention someones livelyhood.

Although I spose it makes a kind of twisted sense!

Well I hope with time, as I guess we all do, that a test will become possible whilst the snake is still alive... which will eliminate the need for a snake to die to test for it. Althugh I understand the need for large breeders to test in whatever way they can, still doesn't make it nice.. but anyway, going of track.. one life for potentially hundreds or even thousands usually wins in the ethics debate.
