I have a texas white sided and a leucy texas rat.
The white side is a pleasure to handle but the leucy still bites and musks even though I have been handling her almost daily for around 6weeks now.
Love her to bits though the little B#@%$##

I must admit i would love to own a Lucy Burmese and i am going down that line hopefully this year or next with a pair of hypos to add into my collection.I dont care for the money side of it i just want to own a Lucy Burmese Python.I will either buy the hypos or wait for the lucy to be produced in the UK and buy one of them.Yes money is tight but for the right animal i would find the money to own one somehow.

At the end of the day... they both eat the same food, both live the same amount of time are both white with blue or black eyes. The difference is that you will get to see the rat snake and occasionally during the hours that you are actually awake.

All very well having thousands of pounds worth of snake curled up in a hide and you occassionally get to see it's nose sticking out when it's hungry... if you're lucky.

Might as well go and buy the diamonds and put those in the hide.... they'll appreciate

"Interesting" logic.

Was tongue in cheek dude

I would be scared of owning thousands of pounds worth of snake in all honesty though. 1) they devalue annually 2) I would be scared of something happening to it.

I like to see my animals as animals rather than investments if you see what I mean.

I know it was. I just found it a bit strange that you talked about general differences in behaviour between rats and royals when my comments were specifically about the leucy morph of each species.

I'm not saying royals are any better than rats (or vice versa), and I'm not suggesting that leucy royals are any better than leucy rats (or vice versa) because that's a totally subjective preference. All I'm saying is that leucy rats are much, much cheaper than leucy royals...and the gap in price between a leucy rat and a normal rat is much closer than a leucy royal and a normal royal. So to me the leucy royal represents something very different to the leucy rat even though, as you rightly state, they are both white, have the same eyes, eat the same food etc etc.

Other than price though, behaviour, size and husbandry are the only differences I can think of between the two ?

Then again... I suppose those 4 subjects cover every snake species we all keep.

Agreed, but I was talking about the two leucy examples in terms of exclusivity and what they represent in our hobby (largely because of that exclusivity). They might both be the same morph, but the morph represents very different things in each species. Leucy rats are much more common than leucy royals and leucy rats aren't all that much more expensive (read exclusive) than the normal rats. In that sense it would probably be better to compare leucy rats with pastel royals, for example, when talking in terms of exclusivity and the prestige associated with the morph type as opposed to the normal type.

You can pick up a leucy rat snake for less than a hundred quid! Where's the exclusivity in that?!?!?

I agree whole heartedly with that sentiment, if you're after exclusivity the leucy royal is certainly the answer. Im not though, i just think a white snake with dark eyes looks amazing, easily pleased me lol!
