oh i don't disagree believe me... for instance a quote from me, to do say glasgow to aberdeen, would be stupid, as i would have to drive so far to begin with!

on the other hand, if i am doing london to mancs, mancs to carlisle, carlisle to.. etc etc etc.. it would be less as trips would then combine..

i said when i first started this, it would be a good idea to have regular trips going to set locations... eg week one: south week two: east week three: midlannd / north midlands area (mancs etc) week four: scotland

etc..

trouble is the trips i normally get asked about would be week one and three combined.. or however it works out.. and there are issues with holding snakes as regards insurance, q'tine and so on. if an animal dies in your care for instance, who is liable? you do not always know an animal is sick before you pick it up and so on...

still. if you guys want to arrange runs south at set times.. to look at making links with me, or RT for that matter.. so we can combine drives.. then that can always be arranged too..

a courier based in scotland.. doing internal scottish trips, would be good for those wanting to move stuff within scotland, where it would catch you out, is those wanting to move stuff out of scotland by a significant way. but then as said. link runs can be arranged easily.

if its any use to poeple, i have to find a gap for leeds(ish) to london(ish) asap if that trip can expanded to cover others. and as said, i may be able to work links in with NI soon, depending on the outcome of current talks. which takes me into stanraer.. so if that comes off, i may be able to arrange scottish links on the return trips..

as you know with the ferret running, a lot of the time, its possible to work together.. just as said.. do be aware it costs you (the transporter) more than you think it will most of the time!

oh trust me, i know what it costs me in fuel.. i do about 1000 miles a week, and spend god knows how many hours in the car.. like it or not... and believe me i don't... it costs me about 15 for 60 or so miles.. i don't need a link to tell me that lol..

N

lol. although i have to say, i have just "costed" your trip.. and would have quoted it at around £65-70 (as i am not sure postcode exacts) lol.. so in fact i am not far off what you were saying with £64 lol

does not cover "hours spent" in the car still tho .. at the moment, i normally make a loss on my time, but as i work full time, and do this part time, i can afford to let that part slide a little..

however, if i was to pay myself the basic wage.. and say it was around £30.. suddenly we see the price is more on £95.. even working on YOUR petrol costs..

Your costs are wrong Nery's, plain and simple.
It does not cast you £80 for fuel, let alone the wear and tear.
A 320 mile trip costs on average (an average taken from the diesel to petrol costs) a grand total of £64.00
Add time onto that equation and i cannot quote, i aint there when you drive.
The £64 / 320 miles comes in at £0.20 / mile total costings. Various factors will change that from mile to mile but not quite so much as to increase the costings by 20%, which an increase up to £80 would be just that.
A business or costing re-evaluation may be required, i don't know. But quite simply, what you are saying does not add up i'm afraid. You cannot argue with the figures when i provided them for you for you to check yourself.

Lol unluckies, i'm hating the net atm it's just gone gash!
Er, £70 for a Wakefield to Teesside delivery. Was a tad extreme, though i understand the coming from Manchester part, it's a shame the company didn't blend a few trips together.
I paid a friend the £15 petrol in the end to take me and bring me back and she still had leftovers from that. A 120 mile round trip.
I didn't state the price before, didn't wanna get into bother, but now you've asked, i aint on the firing line alone lol

lol, am just nosey... still i know RT and i do charge similar prices, so yeah..

sometimes i am cheaper, sometimes they are cheaper.. they tend to do more than i do, so can often combine stuff, i tend to do weekends, evenings and trips around where i am having to go anyway.. so i tend to clump bookings which can reduce costs and sometimes means i can offer good deals.. its swings and roundabouts really i think.. just depends on how many people want to go to areas, and the times they want to have it done.

if someone said.. trip from mancs to exeter tomorrow, i would have to charge full whack. if they said the same trip, in three weeks time, it gives me time to try and book others in.. so a lot depends on how instant the person booking wants the trip to be..

What would be a reasonable hourly courier payment then, out of interest?

The costings for the vehicle are covered in full inc. fuel at approx £0.20/mile.
Lets say the journey, actual travel time, runs at an average of 45mph. Factor in an easily workable figure of £10/hour. That is £0.22/mile courier pay, on top of the vehicle costings.
Now £10/hour is obviously sky high, so lets aim at £5/hour, close to NMW and lets be real, this is a non-loss payment, nothing comes out of this at all as the vehicle is paid for in full, and any consumables, well, the local job centre will tell you that your job doesn't buy you lunch, therefore neither should the customer, you eat and drink whether working or not right.

So, we are working on a figure of £0.20/mile - vehicle, and £0.11/mile - courier, so £0.31/mile covers in full, the vehicle costings, less any non-economical driving habits, cannot charge the consumer for that, and it also pays the courier a near on, full, tax free wage of £5/hour.
Surely everybody would be happy right?

Or even better, maybe a charge solution that increases the cost for travel that includes the animal....?
So for the trip i was quoted, it would be (for you) a 320 mile round trip, so 65 miles twice over (that part would be mine as the consumers extension of responsibility unto yourself, so full whack for that bit, so £0.31 for 120 miles of the journey, then less the courier costings for the remainder, so another 200 miles at vehicle costings of £0.20, or even factor in some intermediate courier payment, say 50%.
So £0.055/mile for the 200 miles of linc. to wakefield, that would work out as a total of £0.255/mile for 200 miles, and £0.31/mile for 120 miles. Total = £86.20.
The prices are similar but people know the score.

(wow i guess this has gripped me, must be a secret accountant lol)
