Default wow, long thread lol

We have applied for the necessary permit to allow us to be able to cover Scotland with a RT style business, hoping it will be through soon as it was sent some time ago!!

We are aware it is time consuming etc etc and are prepared for that!

I haven't read the whole thread, sorry guys!

I just want to say, from personal experience, that people do underestimate the costs in driving. Even just meeting someone an hour away from me will cost me £15 in petrol alone to get there and back... and that's hunting around the city for a competitive garage.. lord help anyone who has to stop on the motorway for petrol!

I recently advertised travel around 5 hours away from me. I have had people asking me to pick things up, drop things off, fill my car, do this.. do that... and then offer me £10.. £20 for doing it... basically no where near covering my costs of running the car, let alone the time... some people have been really generous with delivery costs but one or two considered me "expensive" to quote £30 for what is basically 10 hours of travel for me, because "tnt is £5 cheaper so we might as well go with that" !! The person who wrote that to me already knows what I think of that reason

And our car is taking a beating, I add about 5k miles every year onto our car for reptile related travel, on top of what we would usually use it for. The more miles, the more services, you need more tires, brakes, oil, everything... the less value the car has even when you sell it on, the more chance of engine failure and other failure and breakdown. You age your car the more you drive it and cars are not cheap things to repair.

All in all I find I have people complain even when I am just covering petrol for delivering my own animals, saving people the extra cost of reptile taxi and the time of collecting it themselves, and I'm still called expensive, when I'm taking no money for the car use, no money for my time... just the basic petrol cost... so I dread to think what people think of the taxis who HAVE to cover their repair costs, and who HAVE to take wages - they're not doing you a favour you know, they're running a business!

All in all I don't think I've ever had a quote from a courier that I could beat myself factoring in all the costs... so I'd certainly never complain about their prices.

Hi Athravan, i'd suggest reading the thread, long and tedious as it is, as your slightly allying yourself with one side here, intentional or not, simply by stating the costs that you would incur, and strangely enough you have picked the 60 mile journey too :p

heres something to consider, the charge to run an important document from Swansea to London in a rush(distance approx 200 miles) is £150 with most of the large courier companies, thats the sort of charge needed to make money from couriering, guessing people would prefer not to buy at all rather than pay the true costs if i have to take a snake to the western edge of London i charge a nominal £50 as i know full well that no one will pay the proper price covering everything, maybe "important documents" count for more than live animals??
regards gaz

No offense but this isn't a game of your side, my side... I'm stating how it is, if other people have said the same thing as me then I agree with them, no matter who they are Not going to change the way it is for me just because some people on the thread disagree/agree with it... I don't work like that.

Awesome, so as much as this thread is beginning to grind, it has created something, although i'm assuming you had pout in for your licence long before this thread was comenced, at least people are aware that someone is active in creating a delivery service for the North of the UK.
This could get really good, like Nerys mentioned, turning it into a satelite program whereby the savings are passed on nicely.
Lol, that'd be worth listening in on when dicussions regards cost to each indiv. company and subsequent expected divisions of payment arise. Lol.
Especially when some use fighter jets Lol

You have misunderstood me then. I did not intend that it was a game of any sort, yet in any discussion, there are sides, like it or not, one view, and an opposing view.
Your costings are in agreement with one of the views. That better?

I cannot understand how a 60 mile journey would cost £15 in fuel, are you using a frickin M16 Fighter Jet?

''I know what my car costs me'' blah blah blah BS!

I know also a couple of things, don't assume that because i am a uni student that i am some young inexperienced idiot that hasn't driven a motor vehicle before, i also, whilst doing a full time degree, afford my time to being a Director of a £multi-million / annum turnover business, experience is something i am not short of.
If our company staff reported back at a £15 60 mile journey, i'm afraid it would be bye bye time.

You run 'Gremlin Rides' as a credible business do you not?
You entered into this discussion, obviously very foolishly, and you received feedback and criticism from people that also drive vehicles, (yes thats right you are not the only one ya know!) and you have turned defensive as a result of questions and simple figures put to you.

Either back out gracefully and so ''sorry but my costings are of a private matter'' or admit that your costings, as i have already told you, as a major contributor to the UK motor research has told you (AA), are simply wrong at best, or made up.

I am not happy with the sarcasm you display in answering questions put to you, genuine honest no quibble questions. I have held off till now, but you display the exact same manner throughout this thread and it simply is not on.
its all very well wittering on about how you can do 60 miles on £10 or whatever, however in the real world people want snakes taken on 600-700mile round trips with deadlines to meet, road works to negotiate, other people to find on the way, crappy directions, etc etc, usually entails hour after hour at 80-90mph,your fuel economy is out of the window before you even start, personally on your figures i wouldnt even consider leaving the house, would just be throwing my money down the drain
