I never gave any mileage, and I gave one costing - the last delivery I made to Bristol cost me £15, that's a fact, that's what it cost me, without any repairs or time... and it took an hour each way.. I don't know exactly how much it costs me for my 5k a year travel, but I know it costs more than if I wasn't travelling those 5k... all I said was people have to factor in extra costs and not just petrol.

My side is purely that delivering animals is a costly business, and often people don't factor in costs that are beneath the surface. I don't know how you can say that is not true to be honest

for instance, take you Gaz..

if you had 30 people who all wanted a snake couriered from you, to various places in the uk.. you would be bound to get a fair few of them that would be covered on one run, if you planned it right.. wales, to bristol, somerset devon and so on.. back via the midlands or round the M4 M25 loop would take you thought most of the home counties and so on.. or from wales up the m6 and into the north and north west, etc etc..

but it would be reliant on someone paying you, maybe a deposit, and then balence nearer the time, and then waiting until enough other people booked in on the same route to make it viable.. if you were charging a set fee of £30 per drop for instance.. you would know you would need X amount of people to cover doing a run from wales to the north west, or wales to essex or whatever..

that would then entail you being happy to hold an animal, and pay the subsquent feeding housing and husbandry times and costs, until such time as enough people booked on the run to make it a go-er... and depending on the deal with the buyer, potentially having to wait some time for full payment, and as you and i both know, Mr Bank Manager does not work on love alone.. bills are bills, and banks do not accept credit notes these days, mores the pity.

i know you, gaz, do a lot of shows and tend to hook up with people there, but you get the example i am trying to make i hope.

see, that sort of thing could work well with a pre-planned link run to scotland..

N
i refuse to deal with 30 whole people at once!!sinful, the gaz would have to do proper work then
regards gaz
ps:i didnt notice your F15 last time we met,did you hide it??

rob wallace, did you email us for the quote from aldershot to glasgow? i dont know if you are but we had an email asking for this quote. Aldershot to glasgow is a fair old trip from one end of the country to the other, so the quote of £200+ has come from the sheer amount of miles in that one journey.

as ive said a million times before if you are paying £150 for some snakes and the delivery is £200 then i can see why people think it is not worth while, but on the other hand if you were buying a £2000+ snake im sure £200 would be more than acceptable. The quotes are based on miles covered and not the value of the animal being trasnported. Whether it be a £20 gecko or a £2000 snake, if they are both being delivered over a full journey of say 900 miles the cost of delivery remains the same.

as for scotland, we try to advertise the runs up there well in advance, and as great geckos said, the last scotland run we did we did a flat rate of £40 each drop, which i think is an excellent price to pay to get something delivered from anywhere in england. The unfortunate thing is if you dont need anything delivered when we have a scotland run planned then an individual job has to be quoted, but we do try and advertise our scotland runs as much as possible to make it as cheap as possible for you lovely people up in scotland. The more people on the runs the cheaper it will be as nerys has said, so you need to get everyone in scotland buying reptiles all at the same time then you'll be sorted lol

i dont know if it was us who did this quote but if we dont have any jobs booked around that time that are in or around the same area then we simply cannot "blend" a few trips together. We cannot blend trips that we simply do not have. As said before, any trips we can add together we will, as previous customers have praised us for doing this, but if its an individual job and have no jobs to combine it with then an individual quote is what we have to give

This is getting a wee bitty agressive now guys, i was bye no means slating RT at all, i understand that it was a hell of a journey, hence why if something up this end was in business it would be very useful.... not to go to aldershot... but to do the little trips up this end. I definately do not intend to offend guys.... i seriously dont, i have used your service before and found it excellent.

40 bucks is very very good.

Just take a deep breath, didn't mean to hit a nerve or I wouldn't have posted in the first place

I read the chart on running costs, it's very nice and all and I'm sure quite helpful to couriers for working out their running costs, but to the area I went to in Bristol and back takes me 2 hours, is 140 miles (yes, I'm naughty, we don't always stick to 70 on the M4 and we choose times when the traffic is clear.). To get back from Bristol into Wales I have to pay a road toll of £5.30 and that plus Petrol costs me around £15 for 140 miles.. there's your mileage. I don't know about the chart, that's just what it costs me without factoring in any repair costs. I'm running quite a large, 7 year old, peugot 307 with over 110k miles on the clock, if that helps Perhaps it's leaking petrol somewhere if that cost seems particularly high. It is a piece of junk really But we do a lot of driving as you might be able to tell. I don't know how big the tank is exactly but I know it costs £70 to fill it which lasts us just a few days

Now if someone says to me £15 for delivery to Bristol?! You've got to be kidding me,you're just an hour away! I'll just say to them... that's fine, you come and collect it then and see exactly how much it costs... I'll save 2 hours of my time I was giving away for free anyway.

My rant is only that I don't charge any profit for my deliveries as I'm delivering m own animals, and I still get people saying TNT is cheaper, this is cheaper, I could do it cheaper... I'm not a courier, and I still get complaints about my delivery costs, even at cost. I get a little worked up sometimes when people start complaining about the costs of driving... I never ask to deliver somewhere, I doubt reptile taxi ever asks a customer, can we deliver for you, please, we really want to? People are asking others for a service, if they don't like it they can simply choose not to use it?

hiya rob

im not getting aggressive, i hope you didnt think i was and if you did i apologise. We will be doing a scotland run again in around 3 to 4 weeks time depending on when the shipment of reptiles we are bringing to scotland arrive in the uk. Again, if people would like to jump on this run a flat rate fee will be offered. If you Rob, have anything you want bringing down or bringing up, then pm me and we can see what we can do. But as i say, its all about the luck of the draw as to whether you are interested in buying something when we have a trip planned. its usually the case that something comes up the day after we've been

also a scotland based courier would be expensive, say if someone used them and wanted a rep pickin up say from portsmouth to edinburgh, cos its down to the miles covered, unless the service you offered specified the areas you covered

we'de be pleased to help anyone who wants advice on settin up ion scotland,. that way we can link up and we can collect reps from down south and hand them over to you guys to do the north end of the trip. Whatever it takes to get the rep to a safe home where it wants to be. We'de do this job for nothing if we could but unfortunately im far from being a millionare so cant fund that hehe
