Talking Reptile Delivery Scotland

Hey gang, i was just wondering if anyone up here has thought about starting there own reptile taxi type thing... it would be an amazing idea. They could cover all scotland and the north of england... hopefully that way giving us guys delivery we can afford.

This is by no means a dig at reptile taxi... as i think your company does an excellent job... but it is rather expensive to get things delivered up here.

Anybody considered givving it a shot.

Cheers

Reptile taxi do regular pre-advertised runs up to Scotland, the price is dependent on the amount of runs - the last two were around £40 per delivery. I say around £40 because I can't recall exactly.

does make me chuckle.. why people think that it will be "cheap" to drive an animal from one end of the UK to the other.. i will never know...

i may be doing more NI runs in the future, if something in the pipeline happens..

It would be a fabulous idea to have a Scotland based rep taxi but I think the reason there isn't such a company yet is because it's so easy and cheap to get around Scotland. I have used the bus a few times to travel up north to pick up snakes, and trains are cheap too if you book in advance, much cheaper than reptile transpot companies. And it's always nice to meet the buyer or seller and have a chat etc

I wasnt suggesting that it was cheap to travel the length of the country... trust me i am well aware that its not cheap. But perhaps if they covered scotland and north england. My example is that i was quoted over 200 pound from reptile taxi at one point... which for the quality is probably worth it. But was also more than the animal in question.

Scotland is quite easy to get around but then again if people have kids/work responsibilities that prevent them from travelling then i am pretty sure a scottish/north england version would be amazing for them... and relatively popular.

I'm for that, a Scotland and North England Delivery Service would be great, certainly not to slate Rep Taxi as as far as i am aware they run a fantastic service, but i have had a couple of quotes for a journey that would take me an hour there an hour back at prices that i just couldn't justify.
Maybe something more Northern based that would help reduce the cost to the company thus helping pass on the savings to the customers would be a good idea.

with the price of petrol these days, 200 does not suprise me at all i have to say... couriers tend to work on around 40p and up per mile..

which would make london to aberdeen, around £215

if you are going to start couriering yourself, you will soon learn that in order to make it just brake even, you DO need to charge realistic money..

for instance that trip above, takes at least 10 hours driving, and thats with no breaks factored in.. even charging 215 would barely give you a few pence earnt for your time put in.

it does not matter if the animal is worth 20,000 or 2.00.. the distance involved is the same, as is what you use to do it.. time, fuel and so on

petrol has now rocketed to over £1.10.. the average car on 35-40 mpg, goes nowhere for a tenner these days...

even if you do only north to scotland (which will not last, as people always want you to do more) you will be hard pushed to merely cover your petrol, insurance, tax, tyre wear, oil use, and other general car wear.. unless you charge a realistic price..

i;m not trying to steal business... i dread being asked to do scottish trips as few people really understand the cost implication.. i could not logically do say Carlisle to aberdeen as an affordable standalone trip, as i would have to factor in lincs to carlisle to aberdeen to lincs..

aberdeen to york for instance is still a 6 1/2 hour trip, and some 350 miles, and that is just one way.. and is still going to come in at around £140 or so, unless you want to find yourself out of pocket at the end of it.

all i can say, and i would not mind betting the RT crew (and petwheels for that matter) will say the same. is its a lot harder than just "driving about the country chatting to your mates and dropping off a few animals on the way"

although knackering, it can be a good laugh tho.. Gremlins now has a van to use full time, all i need to do now is talk nicely to a mate who's other half does decals, and get some funky designs on it to cover the rust patches up lol.. viv transport anyone?

N

incidently, RT.. ARE based in the north... unless someone has moved manchester to london side of brum whilst i was not looking!
