Not all royals get over it. Some of them WILL starve themselves to death if the conditions are wrong (and yes, handling a shy, nervous snake is a "wrong condition"). Some of them take months to start eating after they're moved into a new home ANYWAY.

Yes, some of the dwarf localities of boa will stay in that size range - look for Crawl Cay, Caulker Cay, even a male Hog Island would be suitable.

Yes, a boa at six feet long wrapped around your neck is a bad idea, and could be life-threatening if you didn't have someone else there in case it got startled and held on.
No, a boa at six feet long that you handle responsibly and safely is not a safety risk.

I have one royal I've had to move into a different enclosure because she kept escaping her last one. They can hide in amazingly small spaces.

i have a royal who was determined to starve herself to death. had to be tube fed weight gain dog food for 3 weeks. i had one not eat for 8 months, and one for 6 months. they were adults, the tube fed one was a baby. i wouldnt advise royals as a first snake. they are too pernickity. hoggie are a good choice, rosy boas, rats can be bad tempered, some species of rat anyway. milks, kings, smaller boas. and i really dont know why not corns. the perfect snake. and they aint THAT skinny when grown.

i would always say a common boa! even though they may get bigger than you are wanting its not like they are massive instantly it takes three years for them to get really big and your experience of handling will grow with the boa! if your mum is not into the thin snakes (as i am also not keen) then a boa of any locality is the way to go but if you don't mined a 8 foot max snake after three years then a common will be sweet for you. as long as you do your research and have the room any snake can be your starter as long as you are aware of every possible outcome! good luck snake hunting and look in hope for some piccys when you've bought one!

your best bet for boas would probably be Gaz who is on this forum somewhere (hope he doesn't mind the mention) never used him myself but most likely will in the future he has some stunner's and quite a few of the smaller localities and (sorry if I'm wrong) he may deliver! this is the link to his website!

I've met a male common boa who was over eight feet in length - and he was far too heavy for me to manage myself. I've also met females who were 9ft+.

If you want a smaller boa, go for the Caulker Cay, Crawl Cay, Corn Island, Honduran, maybe a male Hog Island (these are not species, they're island localities and are still Boa constrictor imperator)
