Sunbeams are gorgeous... but many of them are wild caught and may need to be treated for parasites.

sorry i would definately disagree and NOT recomend a royal as a starter snake. you only need to check this site to see how many people have problems feeding them

yes not all are fussy feeders but when the words 'not eating' or 'wont eat' or 'i am really worried my snake hasnt eaten for months' appear in a thread title its normally about a royal

Ok so at this stage its:
-dwarf boa

-carpet python (i heard these are often meanies=[ )

-hognose (mean as well)

-brazilian rainbow boa (probably not, heard not a good 1st snake)

Can someone please post some pics of hognoses, and what is their price range. What age (of the snake) is it best to get a snake?

If you go for a rainbow boa I might suggest going for a Colombian. They're slightly more forgiving of keeper errors, and mine are very easy-going. Even as youngsters my pair were handleable. They're also SLIGHTLY smaller (an adult BRB *can* get to 7 feet long)... and though they lose a lot of the baby pattern and go a more solid chocolate brown during the day, the night-time colours when they get their pattern back and light silvery sides are GORGEOUS! If you go for one of these go for one of last year's babies (not a 200 - they'll be that bit more grown on and sturdy, and will have gotten over some of their nervous baby behaviour.

Hognose, if kings and corns are "too thin", are also probably "too thin" - they're still colubrid-type snakes.

I have no personal experience of carpet pythons, but as arboreal pythons I bet they have pretty impressively large teeth.

Royal pythons have puppy-dog faces.

If you want a snake that "looks angry" how about a Radiated Rat Snake? (Google for photos )

i suggest

san fran garters
blue garters
Western hognose
brown house snakes
grey band king or similar
milks or hybrids of milks and kings are relatively cheap and fairly bombproof
perhaps a hog island boa?

there's so many options. if you're serious about it though, get what the hell you want if you can adequately care for it. avoid anything WC.
