so wats the most handleable snake? Cos if ima go on hols i need a snake that people wont be too scared of =]

Snakes that are easy to handle, generally calm, and easy to care for:

Corn snakes
Milk snakes
King snakes (watch out for these last two crapping or musking though!)
Boas (commons, hogg islands - some of the dwarfs can be a little nippy from what I have read)
Rosy Boas
Sand Boas
Colombian rainbow boa

If you want a chunky snake you can handle on a regular basis, the boas are not a bad idea. They're a little more likely to be nippy than a corn snake in my own personal experience, but they're still nice snakes.

And "holiday" ? What is this "holiday" of which you speak? We don't get those any more - there's always some cage that needs cleaning!

I got a late CB07 female royal about a month or so ago, which was apparently not the best feeder out of the batch, but she settled in fine and I offered food after 5 days and she accepted it with no problems at all. Since then, fed her every 5 days and she's been absolutely fine, everything has been going perfect for me! It makes me wonder that maybe people aren't keeping their royals in the right conditions?
By the way she is perfectly tame as well, doesn't mind being handled and it hasn't put her off food. The way I feed her is, I defrost a weaner rat, get the snake out, hold near the floor so her head goes down towards the rat lying on the floor, maybe wiggle it a tiny bit, she smells it and strikes almost right away. Then I just put her down and wait for her to uncoil and eat it. So far this way has worked every time

im not great on snakes but i will try and help you out just a little, there is a rat snake what is great frist time snake, but very smiliar to corn so that might be a problem to you.

a beauty snake is a beautiful snake but im not sure it would pass off for a first time snake.

a royal python will growno bigger then 6ish foot depending on male or femal, (male is a foot bigger so 7ish foot) and great for a first time snake.

and the snake with the messurments is a rainbow boa, but you would have to know your subspecies becuase some grow bigger than others.

i cant be bothered to read all the replys so i will answer your post imo i would look around and see what YOU want or YOU like then ask about it and do as much research as YOU can before buying a snake no point listening to what other people tell you to get its YOUR choice just research as much as you can that is the key thing

There are actually hundreds of very different species called "rat snakes" - some of which are fantastic beginner's snakes and some of which are very delicate, very aggressive or even mildly venomous.

Female royals are the larger sex overall - males tend to be smaller and usually wind up between three and five feet in length.

And yeah, they're wonderful first time snakes as long as you're willing to take the risk of having a snake that you may not be able to get out and handle lest it stop eating for three months. Some people luck out and get snakes that will eat every time even when you're holding them; other people have snakes that routinely fast for six months or more every year or that stop eating if you look at them let alone get them out to hold. I have some of each. We don't handle Theo any more than strictly necessary because it sets him back in his feeding every single time we do it, but Galahad will eat anything you put in front of him even if you're holding him at the time. The other three are somewhere in between.

Generally, if having a snake you can get out and hold is important to you I wouldn't advise a royal simply because there's no way of determining whether THIS royal, once you get it into YOUR house, will consistently eat if YOU handle it.

As Ladybird said, the royal they got was a 'tetchy' feeder before they got it but now feeds consistently in spite of handling; that's sheer luck and good choice of royal.
