Default Is this too big a step in food size?

I have had my royal for just over a month, and he has taken 4 separate feeds of a large mouse for me no problem every time.

I have been told that the mouse is too small and I should feed bigger, I stuck with the large mouse up until now as I had 4 and wanted him to settle in before upping his food size.

I now have some small rats for his next feed (week today), I was just wondering if they were too large and is once every 7 days too much.

My royal is just over 2 foot I would say, and 500 grams weighed 2 weeks ago.

Below is a picture of his the large mouse he is on now and the small rat to compare

Mouse 25g (frozen) rat 85g (frozen)

Here is some pictures and a video of him eating the large mouse so you can get an idea of his size.

I would say the rat is no wider that the royal, its just the length of the rat and the size of my royals head that is putting me off LOL (probably being over cautious)

Best you can do is try it mate, looks like it'll take it fine, jsut see what happens- check what kind of a lump is left too! If its just a bit longer but not too much fatter it should be fine afterall they can eat upto 1.5 times their widest part of body!

He will take down a small mouse easily! Only thing to worry about is if he will take rats some don't take them straight away after being on mice. you may need to feed a mouse then follow it up with a rat to get him used to them.
