I think anyone that keeps snakes should find a vet that knows their stuff when it comes to reptiles & get insurance. Its not that expensive & will stop people avoiding a trip & putting the snakes life in danger just because its gonna cost some ££.

I am sorry for you loss of your Snakey... But sounds like there was some warning signs that shouldnt have been ignored.

There is a good point in there, everyone imagines vets fees to be unreasonably expensive when in reality they are not. My adult cornsnake had a stomach infection and was taken to the vet, was tubed fluids and Flagyl, given an injection of vitamins and a 10 day course of injectable antibiotics. Including consultation fees it cost me just over £30.

I am sorry for your loss, you`ve learnt the hard way i`m afraid but i`m sure a lesson has been learned none the less. There is always an emergency vet somewhere, and anyone keeping any animal has to be willing and prepared to make that call when needed, even if it means that the animal needs to be euthanased, its much better than it suffering and dying in pain.

Best of luck for the future.

Just guessing here but i'd go with severe scale rot followed by septicaemia?
Either way a blister of those dimensions doesn't just appear over night, how long had it been festering away?
Did you ever have a biopsy or autopsy done?

i agree with twisted i think the lesson to be learnt is that any1 who has or is thinkin of havin reptiles shud no their local exotic vets, and if affordale, get insurance. i havnt got insurance atm as i aint got a job but rest assured as soon as i get one insurance is first on the list!
