Default brazilian rainbow boas

im looking into getting a BRB but need loads of addvise before i take the plunge...

my questions are

what kind of viv set up would i need from baby to adult ?

Any pictures of set ups that you have would be a great help so i can make the perfect viv for the snake ?

A shopping list of what i would need for the viv would be a great help?

.................................................. ....................................

Does anyone also have a care sheet i can read up on please ?

How often do they feed and what is there prefered diet from young

what are there tempers like as i have a young boy and what size do they most likely grow too?

many thanks jamie

you would need a 2x2 for when he was smaller and maybe get a 4x4 for when he gets bigger,

the set up needs to be filled with places for the snake to hide, a water dish (boas and pythons love to sit in water, and it helps them shed) and alot of greenary around the viv.

sorry i havnt seen any pics around this site, but i hvant really looked, im sure if you typed in what you were looking for into the search bar at the top you would find something.

i did have a care sheet what i got alot of information off, if i can find it once again i will email you giving you the link.

it depends on how big you are going to start off with it. my RB is only a little baby, and me myself feed him every sunday (once a week, doesnt have to be sunday) on a small pinkie but will be going onto a small fuzzy, also i have heard they eat medium rat when fully grown, but i should think that depends on how big they grow and how often you feed him.

im not sure on the temps but im sure they will tell you in a care sheet, also i dont take much intrested in my temps (i know that sounds bad) but my RB seems fine and happy and eats fine

they tend to be a bit nippy when younger but will calm right down with handling, and they have a rep for being fusy eaters but i have never had any trouble with mine, and over all they are quite an easy snake to look after.

Do you keep any other snakes?? BRBs are simiiar to keeping most other snakes only they require higher humidity [ usually a water bowl under a heat bulb sorts that out or spraying their vivs ] An adult well do well in a 48x24x24 They can be snappy when young but regular handling soon sorts that out.
Heres a few pics of mine

The top viv is hers

they r great snakes keep, a real pleasure!!! u may not c them in the day though as they r nocturnal, mind u sayin that i dont c mine a nite either!!! only wen i get her out she comes 2 life!!! my girl is about 5ft and livin in a 4x2x2 viv wiv a hide at each end, big bowl of water and a big moss tub. i heat my vivs wiv ahs heaters so i ave 2 spray the viv about 3 times a day because they dry the air out really quick!!! i feed her once a week on a adult rat, which goes down very easily!!! females tend 2 max out at 7ft wiv males slightly smaller but ive heard of bigger!!! wen they r young the humidity needs 2 b very high, bout 90+%, wen they start 2 get near adult it only needs 2 b around 70%. but this info varies from different care sheets. i dont ave any pics of my set ups at the mo but u can c my female in my sig pic!!!

Hi, I just bought a baby BRB off Punky_Jen on this forum, am chuffed with it too

I looked up a few caresheets on the web and here are the links for you...

serpent, the snake information and snake care site

Brazilian Rainbow Boa Constrictor Care Sheet | Aquariums, Reptiles, Pet Supplies, Fishing Tackle, and Aquatics Supply stockists.

Rainbow Boa Care Sheet

The Rainbow Boa Page

and one from this forum too...

Rainbow boa care sheet.

hope these help, some vary a little but the general gist is the same, high humidity for youngsters.
I would personally recommend a plastic viv as it helps with keeping humidity high.

Don't know where abouts you are based but have been into Millenium Reptiles in Bishop Stortford today and he has a few babies in cos he breeds 'em. £175 each.

Hope you get one soon, pics required of course.

Lorraine

She/he is just great, will post some pics when I set up new computer, the usb and card readers in this one have packed up working so can't upload pics til I get an hour to sort out my new base unit.

I am planning to get Dexter (have named him finally) probed in a while by the guy who owns Millenium Reptiles, as he breeds them himself, he said he would do it. I just wanna know out of curiosity really.

Am handling daily, not when fed obviously, and he has a great temperament.
Fed twice, due again tomorrow, so no probs there.
Looking very nice, thanks Jen, all credit to you for this lovely snake.
