I put mine in the hot end and I should think a box will be fine, it just wont last as long due to being damp.
Also, don't know if it is strictly needed, but I always microwave mine or make with boiling water then cool, in case of nasties.

aye i will do defo after i last got mites from orchid bark - never using substrate etc again without treating it myself first
thanx mate do you just buch some up and put it against the side of he hide box or do you spread it across the floor of the hidebox?
