Default Ridiculously Misinformed Programme On Sky 3

I'm watching some shit on Sky 3 right now about snakes. Here's a line from it:

"Boas are just as dangerous as Pythons when kept as pets."

That should give you an impression of the tone of the programme. It's basically the most misinformed crap I've ever seen, implying that snakes as pets are extremely dangerous and you shouldn't keep them unless you are an expert. There was an anecdote from a woman who found a neighbour's pet boa in her toilet, she said 'I was afraid it would get to my two year old and squeeze her to death, because that's what boas do.'

Last time I checked, that isn't what boas do. Boas constrict when they need to eat and they need to subdue the prey, not for the hell of it when they see a baby, like this stupid woman said. They don't go around killing people for the hell of it, I'll bet that it would have been more scared of the kid than willing to eat it, especially being a pet and therefore presumably CB.

It's crap like this that gives people misconceptions of keeping snakes. They're ignoring all the positive comments about snakes, and focusing on the bad.

Edit: In fairness it's getting more positive towards the end.

But no, I agree. Things like that are just rediculous. People that say things like that dont know what they are talking about, haven't had experience of these things (clearly), and so why comment?

I know nothing on keeping giraffes, and so I wont comment on how dangerous they are, or if they lick you to death at the first site of aggression... so why do misinformed people feel they need to comment on these things? Silly people.

Yeah it's been on loads of times mate, I suppose in a sense it's true in that a large boa constrictor could be a danger to small children in the wrong enviroment but then again so could a dog.

What there really doing is making everything sensationalized, making everything appear more dramatic than it really is.

Life in cold blood was good though, very well made.

He is... apparently he's got a couple more small things lined up for the next few years to be getting on with. He's 81 one now I believe!

Actually... that statement is absolutely true.

Weight for weight, length for length... a boa IS just as dangerous as a python. A six foot boa is just as dangerous as a six foot python.

Now, that said... a six foot boa or python is probably LESS dangerous than a large aggressive dog.
