Default Califorinian king turned nasty...

I have a califorinian king snake who use to be as placid as anything but now he has turned really nasty, The start of the change happened when he bit my finger one day when i was handling him (came out of the tank with no problem) it wasnt a strike bite though, he seemed to eye up the side of my finger then just latched on he then worked his way down to my finger tip and began to try and eat it! Not nice. I managed to remove him after 45mins and since that day if i go to open the viv he will strike at the glass if he is out on the floor he will attack almost anything if he feels like it....dvd case mobile phone etc.
I do still handle him with one glove on but would love to have my placid pet back. Any ideas

this sounds l;ike there is a definate problem, the fact he is attacking the glass, and dvd cases etc, means it isnt a feeding responce. is he feeding ok? has he got any burns etc? has he got mites?

i really dont know were to start. but would imagine there is a problem causeing this, is his set up all correct?

get a white piece of cloth, wipe it down the snake, if he has mites they will come off on it, and also check his water bowl for little brown things (you will know if they are mites) at the bottom.

has he been bred? has he been accidentally hurt whilst handeling? does he stoip attackign when you hold him, or just go and go until you put him down? are there any posibilities you think could of caused this? and other strange behaviour you have noticed? also how big is he, and what size food?

Have a look in the water bowl for little black spots floating, or have a look under the chin look for little black specks..

Havent seen anything in the water bowl but will find a cloth in a min to double check.
He has not been bred nor hurt whilst handling. When i hold him he seems ok but i dont let his head near enough to attack me. Not noticed anything too strange he is very alert and the minute i go to open the viv he knows and is there at the door very quickly sometimes he just comes over and other times he will strike.
He is about 5 and a half foot long and is on adult mice.

it sounds like he is hungry more than anything, have you got any recent pics of him? i know calis will eat whatever you give them so you have to be careful, it just seems really strange, i had a female cali do exactly the same, but she had a reason, as she hadjust layed her eggs.

i personally would just take the bites a few times, and dont put him down until he stops biting, it worked with a ew aggresive snakes i have had before, and it worked well especially with one of my calis, although im allergic to there saliva so was itchy and swolen lol. the bites them selves dont hurt, and one he realises you arent bothered, they usually stop, i supose its worth trying if you dont mind being bitten.
