I rarely ever handle my bci, I just take him out for a run around every now and then to make sure everything is all ok.

However, when I do take him out he does show a preference to be handled by me ie if someone else holds him he'll always come back to me,. Much as it is nice to think its because he likes me best, as suggested above its most probably because he is 'used' to me, or rather he knows my smell and knows that I am safe, and that if he wants to snooze on me that I am warm and I will stay very still and let him snooze in peace.

On a similair note, I used to have a pair of garters and they always lay together. Even when one die and the other was temporarily housed with my baby boa (I know I shouldn't have done it now, but I was told by very experienced keepers I thought I could trust at the time that it was ok) the little garter always lay with the boa.

Yeah, not generally the best thing to do, lol!

When snakes lay together, they're usually competing for the best place in the viv rather than actually seeking each other's company.

Ash, my Sinder sib boa loves attention so much that if I have him out while I'm at the PC and ignore him, he will nudge my lips with his nose to get my attention again. He only does it to me though.

I have noticed that plenty of my snakes are docile and calm when held by me and start getting a bit tetchy when somebody else is nearby or holding them. I've heard similar things from other people too.

I wouldn't go as far as calling them "affectionate" but certainly they're able to tell people apart.

I have at this moment in time a baby ATB for which I was present at the birth (lol I picked her up as she came out of mummy in point of fact - I hadn't realised the mother was still giving birth as I woke to find lots of wee babies and started gathering them up).

Thing is, this particular ATB is the only snake I've ever met that I would call "dog tame". If I hold my hand above it, without fail it will stretch out and climb on, then curl in between my fingers or try to reach my head. It will happily take food whilst on my hand. The other babies, while still not shy, don't do this.

If I didn't know better I'd liken this to imprinting, but fortunately I do know better and I just assume that since this snake has known my smell from birth and had no untoward experiences in my presence it considers me "safe".

Cute though.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love for my snakes to feel about me the same way I do about them, but is just isn't going to happen.

That's what my girlfriend says about me.
