Totally agree with this. I have a snake that would always bite my father. He has never bitten anyone else.

I wouldn't call my Royal tame, but he definetly sees the benefit of me being around, if I get him out and let him get comfortable, he'll quite happily just rest his head on an available outcropping of human and stay there, he used my free hand once, meaning both my hands were tied just because one of them was an appropriate head rest for the bugger.
![]() The one thing I always go all soppy over, is if I leave him on my lap, and give him every option of escape, he just slithers round to my back and starts going up my shirt to hide. Also if anyone else handles him, he doesn't exactly stress out, but he does tend to treat me like some sort of homing beacon and never settle til I'm holding him or he's back in the viv. |

There's a difference between "affection" (which I don't think my snakes show) and "lack of fear/presence of curiosity" - which my snakes DO show around me.
The ones that are primarily fed and handled by me will show stress behaviours when exposed to pink trees that do not smell the same as the pink tree that feeds them. Complete strangers provoke the most stress behaviour - and yes, many of them will reach back to me. I have no illusions that they're saying "No, I want to go back to my mummy" - they're saying "Strange predator smell! Need safe smell!" They do the same reaching thing if *I* am handling them near their cages, you see... they reach towards their place of safety in the cage. It's just that if they're not near their cage and I'm the only familiar thing, I'm their place of safety.

our hypo used to love my boyfriend but when I held him he would try and slither away over to him and then sit still with him! never was agressive to me.
One of my female royals wont let him touch her head but i can rub the bottom of her chin and the top of her head and she'll sit still til im done! but she is my baby! ![]()

I've got snakes that seem 'affectionate' towards me, but I don't think they are being affectionate. I think it's just the way we see it. Snakes recognize different smells, and vibrations and feel safer when they are in or around 'familiar' things.

affectionate snakes? not in my bloody collection. anything soppy is turfed out. no, just kidding. i do prefer bitey snakes to more docile ones but i dont think snakes have the capacity to be affectionate.... hunt, feed, drink, rest, raise body temparature and reproduce are definates..... cuddle time however is not. its merely bunny huggers anthropomorphising their snakes, i tend to just ignore such comments and go to a more sensible thread.
