Thanks Amy,
I'm not sure whether he opens his mouth in the viv strikes but he certainly did after his bath LOL. I've been concentrating on making sure he misses rather than if he opened his mouth ![]()

Hi I am not sure why a bath would upset your snake unless you had water to hot.
I maybe be able to let you know why it is not going to the toilet to ofter. 5 foot for a 6 month old Burmese is quite big I notice you are feeding it every week which in my book is too much. Pythons have a slower system than say a corn snake they need longer to digest their food. Maybe he just needs a bit of a gap between feeds. I have kept snakes for 15 years so I do know a little bit not everything so I could be wrong see what others think. Lyn |

When burms have a sudden growth spurt they seem to get more brave and become more agressive. Yours does sound large for its age. Mine is a year and half and around 7ft. No matter how much i handle mine he's remained agressive but only in his viv he'll hiss and strike but once out he calms down alot and occasionally hisses. Where the weathers been nice lately been letting him cruise around the garden and he goes round hissing to himself the nutter lol.

i hope is getting better for you!i find they are all mouth tbh! once you have them they dont seem to mind just slowly increase the handling times and keep at it! as for the size you cant say! some snakes grow faster than others! mine has grown extremely long in his fist 11 months but puts no girth on! i think it differs but it is true they have a slower digestive system! maybe one large food item every 10-14 days is the best and how i feed mine!
good luck and keep at it! |

Has he recently gone through a growth spurt? That could be your answer, I've noticed that big snakes whilst tame when they go through a growth spurt they go back to being stroppy as a way of testing you, to see if you will still take them out or interfere with them. He's probably trying to stamp his authority so to speak. I know of a few Burms that have done it, one's doing it right now, also an Afrock that's done it aswell. Once you persevere with him then he'll be back to normal.

LOL, No i've not been eaten. He was fed yesterday so I havent been near him today but I did handle him for a while yesterday before his feed and he seemed ok once out of the viv, Lots of hissing to start with but no striking. So I guess just persevering as many of you guys have said will work. I'll se how he is again tomorrow.
Thanks Folks
