An 08 hatchling will not need that size straight away. But you should be prepared for it as an adult and work out if you will be able to house it as an adult. If you have doubts then go for something a bit smaller like a Jungle. I personally have whole bedroom with vivs in but thats because wife prefered to give up a bedroom than have all the vivs round our living room. This is my 05 coastal in a 4x2x2. He is small for his age though.

Another option would be an irian jaya. Fantastic looking and again not as big as a coastal. All these measurements are in feet. Did you think it was metres?

Carpets are fabulous snakes. The only drawback is their size and the fact that some youngsters can be a bit nippy. I only have one that was nippy, and even she's calmed down now. Don't mess when they smell food though
![]() I keep mine in RUBs at the moment. 2 are still in the 9Ls, 2 in 64Ls my biggest is in an 84L. Paper substrate is good, with a couple of hide boxes, and some/lots of branches for climbing. A large water dish is a must too, but you'll hardly ever see them in it. I heat the RUBs with a heatmat that covers just under 1/2 the base. The thermostat is set to 90F or just over. A 4*2*2 should be big enough for most carpets but the biggest might like a larger viv. You'll need a ceramic/AHS heater for a viv rather than a heatmat. If it's difficult to buy a viv, why not try making your own. It's quite easy and very rewarding.

IMO carpets are just as easy as corns to care for and make fantastic pet snakes. Alot of people will tell you to avoid coastals but i would argue that they are the best of the lot despite being slightly larger as adults than the other sub species. IJ's and jungles can be fussy feeders and picky when it comes to rats where as a coastal will usually eat whatever you put infront of it. Coastals again are regarded as being snappy wheras in my experience (i have mostly coastals) they are the most laid back of the carpets. They also come accross as slightly more intelligent than jcp's, IJ's etc to me and will usually roam out of the viv for a look around when you open the door. Perhaps the best thing about coastals however is the ammount of colours they come in, again they are regarded as the ugly carpet but infact they can be absolutely stunning if you find the right example. There are plenty about so don't just buy the one in the pet shop because it is there, take you'r time, pick the right animal and you will not regret it. I have several available but im no where near you
As for the viv, an 07 coastal will still be quite small, i would use a 50L RUB for now, you could sit it in a larger viv if you wish to get everything set up early? One last thing, coastals aren't generally as large as people believe. Get yourself a rockhampton male for example and don't over feed him and you are looking at a 5ft adult. Its always safe to expect a larger animal however... All the best. Probably my favourite coastal pattern wise ![]()
