Default Royal Breeding Frequency

I've always wondered if people generally breed their female royals annually, or do you give them a year's rest each time?

You can breed them annually. There is a theory that in the wild a lot will, due to a number of females collected and number of gravid ones in the bunch. 77% of them were gravid which could mean some females will breed in successive years or there was plenty of food and rainfall that year. Since there is a fair number that weren't, it could mean they breed in alternating years, or when their particular needs are met.

Females will still go through the cycles of follicle growth after laying a clutch the year before, so i suppose it's open to interpretation.

There's a report that a female has laid in 7 successive years and all the eggs were fertile viable clutches.

I'd rather give them a year off, although, i might not play exactly by that rule every year.

I like to give my females a year off also, just to make sure iv got health and bodyweight back up. Some people dont "Rest" their snakes(and it is a personal choice)but i wouldnt want to have sprogs every year either!!!

We haven't bred our royals yet, when we do it will be every other year though. We had a couple of females this year who were up to weight but never went near a male. We tried a male in with a couple of the ladies and gave the others the year off.

Some royal females will 'insist' on a year off. Either by refusing to breed at all or by slugging out.
