Default Rainwater

I have ordered some established Venus Fly Traps, and it says to use rainwater to feed them as tap water contains chemicals that are not good for them, unless it treated (left out to aerate)

Does anyone give their snakes rainwater to drink instead of tap or bottled water?

Just thought they may prefer that as its more natural? Seeing as it looks like we are going to have a wet summer again, supply is not going to be short!

I wouldn't feed you snakes rain water as it falls for about a mile between cloud and ground, in this time picking up alot of pollutants, some areas more than others (industrial compared to rural) but its safer to use bottled water or just boil the kettle, or leavig the water to stand for a day.

I dont think id use rainwater either, think of some of the areas that get acid rain. Keep your fly traps hot and humid as well. I used to put a plastic bag round them.

actually its quite easy to distill water to make it pure I use a pan with a hole in the lid attach a pipe when you boil the water the steam comes out of the pipe if you pass the pipe through cold water or ice the steam condenses to the purest of water.

Rainwater is far more pure than our tapwater these days. Unless you live near a factory and it's blowing downwind to your house there is no issue. For it being suitable for snakes i do not know but naturally i cannot see why not. It contains far less nitrates than your tapwater and it's completely nitrite free which your tapwater is not always either.
Tapwater contains so many additives now it's unbelievable, it contains traces of cadmium and arsnic which is harmful to humans in high quantities. And quartly doses of iron gets flooded through to clear deposits in pipework for drinking water. The thing is it makes you think what this is doing to our pets?

If your still not convinced practical fishkeeping made a artical on how detrimental tapwater can be( which can be found on their website) and how it can explain for some of those mystry deaths of your fish. Rainwater or reverse osmosis water (remineralised) is by far the safest option for fish anyway.

Weigh up the facts and make up your own mind.

Hope this helped.

Oh and sorry i didn't answer your question, rainwater is ideal for venus fly traps so is remineralised ro water. Im not sure whether it is the heavy or chelated metals in tapwater which is the issue or just the basis oF chloromines and chlorine. What i do know is tapwater is not suitable hehe.
