A long & interesting Thread.

I do find it really odd that people import morphs that are readily available in the UK. I realise it is necessary for furthering the hobby when there's things that just aren't available in the UK already - but importing morphs that not only exist here but are really common here isn't something I really "get".
Yup,

I have & do Import stock - hand picked & not 'blind' purchases as ya know already!

However, this impulse to purchase unseen stock from the U.S.A. breeders is a recent invasion to the U.K. corn situation.

Yes, there are certain +'s to New Blood being available in the species. However, the negative aspects have to be realised:

Often they are extremely small hatchlings, even if they are the previous years' stock.

They can be Extremely stressed from the long journey & may succumb to dehidration.

And my 'all time favourite', incorrectly sexed (trust me I have done it myself, but, how do you have your new animal replaced when the distance is so great)?

Yup, it's the old story.............they may be a cheaper option, but, you get what you pay for in this life.

As for the het. situation.

I purchased 1.1 Anery het. Bloodred, Hypo from a good friend in the U.K., way back.

These animals have proven to be the 'back-bone' of most of my lineage.

Yes, it has taken me more years than I care to mention to figure out their true identidy because of limited info. on the parents.

However, it was well worth the effort.

As for Rich's new 'No het' ruling............that's his choice.

Not makin' it easy for his competitors.......it may, just, sort the 'men from the boys'

Just my 2p

I think Rich might have had a lot of problems with customers not understanding what they are buying. The problem with some of the more complex (double and triple trait etc) corn cultivars is the odds of hatching them from a het x het breeding.

Can you imagine how many complaints Rich gets per year that read something like...

"My normal het lavender and bloodred pair has bred...I dind't get any lav/bloodreds/plasmas you are a rip off merchant.....(blah blah)"

People buy these snakes not understanding that they only really have a 5/10/12/16% chance of hitting the cultivar they want, then complain.

I also imagine if he's a bit disorganised given the amount of animals there a fair few animals have been mis-sold, doing it this way anerys are anerys are anerys, he won't have to worry if *that* anery really is the one thats het x, y and z or not.

I can't see as this really matters, there are many, many corn breeders to choose from.

Each to their own but personally i like to know my hets when i buy just because they often influence purchases for projects and can make clutches more exciting to anticipate hatching because you can HOPE for that one combo but you know you may or may not hit the odds but the chance is there. Nice surprise if you get something for nowt due to unknown hets but i like to plan these things personally.
