Default Most Deadly

I was wondering what the deadliest snake in the world was? You see a lot of documentary's and they say a different snake each time.

So which one is it?

The fierce snake/Inland Taipan is the most potent snake in the world.

The Russells viper though has one of the highest body counts due to its proximity to people and the lack of anti-venom.

funny you should post this as i watched a vid on youtube earlier discussing this. It all depends on what you are going by, some have extremely deadly venom that only needs a little whereas some have venom that isnt as deadly but inject a great amount in 1 go.

The hooknosed sea krait has got the single most deadly venom but it doesnt have that much stored whereas a russels viper stores more, a gaboon viper has the biggest fangs, a king cobra is the biggest. So it all depends on what you class as most deadly.

I thought it was the inland taipan before today but apparently the its the sea krait but they hardly ever come into contact with humans and are reluctant to bite.

Gotta say this, couldn`t resisit. The most deadly snake is the one that just bit you!
However, i also thought that it was the inland taipan, but as they`re so shy & live way out in the bush, they rarely come into contact with people, so bites are virtually zero.

Hi all,

I would say inland Taipan has the most potent venom, but is not in close contact with humans so will not kill as many.

I would then go for Puff Adder and Russels Viper in no particular order, they are not as potent but they are in close contact with humans and have a high kill rate, it's farmers that get bitten but they are too far away from help by the time they get to help in most cases it is to late.

Puff adders though arnt as deadly as some other African snakes, but they have horrible venom and even those that survive are likely to be minus arms and legs

Been busy looking it up since you started this thread

Have come to the conclusion that you cant pick the worlds 'Deadliest' snake.

The hooknosed sea krait and the inland taipan have the most toxic venom and highest LD50 result but they hardly ever come into human contact. The king cobra has a huge amount of stored venom and can deliver a lot in one bite but it isnt as potent. The coastal taipan is said to attack and will bite repeatedly, it has lots of venom and it is extremely toxic, same can be said for the king brown. The russels viper doesnt have a very high toxicity but it kills more people than any other snake as it lives in close proximity to lots of sri lankan people. The black mamba has a fairly high toxicity level and is a very aggresive snake if it comes into human contact.

The level of treatment available also has to be taken into account as australia has a much better health service than sri lanka, that is why the small island of sri lanka has the highest death rate than any other country in the world.

All these snakes have been tested for venom toxicity on mice and not humans so none of the information is 100% accuarate as you cant exactly have testing on humans. (death row)

Sorry to waffle on but i enjoyed having a good old rant lol

P.S going to sri lanka next year on hols

People have been bitten by Inland Taipans... Not theres been no recorded deaths, which is really quite amazing...

Like the others say, depends on what you class as deadly... Russels Vipers kill the most people, just because they are very common where farmers work...

King Cobras are the largest venomous snake in a world, and store the most venom...

Gaboon vipers have the largest fangs...
Puff adders are thw quickest striking snake....
Black Mambas are the fastest traveling snake, on ground....

Please correct me if im wrong on anything

But on adding that... constrictors have caused deaths

LD50 isnt the best test either, it would be if we could do it on prisoners
