Default Driftwood

Hi everyone,

Ive recently purchased some driftwood from a reputable reptile shop & just wondered if it should be treated in any way (ie incase carrying mites)?

Any advice welcome.

If it's from a reputable rep shop then they probably would have treated it already, to be honest. Wouldn't want to risk their good rep. But if you want to be absoloutly sure you can nuke it in the microwave (or bake it in the oven for a bit) to make sure any nasty creepy crawlies are dead. But don't cook it for too long, it may burst into flames! Have fun!

yeah you never really know where its been so its best to treat it!

you can bake it for about 30mins, freeze it, or submerge it in water for a few days!

How long would you nuke it for?

A few mins. Not much can survive microwaves. I also use oven cooking and usually wash the wood with a bleach solution, give a really good rinse and cook for half hour on 200deg c. Or freezing overnight. All are effective. No matter how repitable the store is bugs cannot be avoided and its always best to be safer than sorry.
