Red face Hatchlings not feeding

Hi, I have recently had my first batch of baby corn snakes hatch and have kept two of the babies by myself. The problem is they are 4 weeks old but haven't eaten anything.

They both shed after about 6 dyas and I have been trying them with pinkies and pinky heads every couple of days. I have tried teasing the snake to gets its interest and have also tried leaving the pinky in the container for a few hours but they just don't seem interested.

Neither of the snakes seem very aggressive and have not struck out at all. I have read that they are OK for the first few weeks but no one has really said how many weeks is OK for them not to have fed, Iwould rather get them eating than leave it so would welcome any advise.

Does anyone have any tricks that work or tried and tested best ways to do the first few feeds?

Thanks in advance
Bones

Have you tried braining the pinkies?

Hi Mattrolls,

Yeah thanks I have heard of that but forgot it was something I should try. I will try it tonight and see if that gets them interested.

Thanks

The most simple of ways often work for me, first is rubbing the pinkie on a chick, so it smells of chick, and the 2nd is feeding in a waxworm tub or matchbox depending on the size of the corn.. braining + chick + waxworm tub has worked for me on the most stubborn of little feeders.

Hi Athravan,

I have some small tubs that would be the perfect size but do not have any chicks, is there any other scent they would really go for?

Cheers

try increasing the number of days betwwen offering feeds, as you could be stressing them out by offering every couple of days,

if that dont work speak to Wohic shes the queen of non feeders

I just put my corns in a waxworm pot with a pinky, close the lid and then leave em 3-5hrs and check, if the pink's still there then i leave them in and if pinks gone i go woot and put em back in box alone. So far out of 15 non-feeders i've had 15 have eaten using this method...
