At 12 it would take about 3-4 of you to hold an adult female burm. I think its mad you have only had a royal for 7months and are considering getting a burm or a retic. Ive been bitten and constricted by a 14ft 2year old female retic and it took 4people to get her off. Felt like my eyes were gonna pop out. Go and speak to your local reptile shop or someone with experience with large snakes, ask if you can hold an adult specimen and get as much info about their experience with them.

hey guys,
was flickign throu this post and ok fair enough everyone is warnign him about the larger snakes etc but one thing and probably the key thing is,im 17 atm, still a student etc, live ta home with my parents, hes 12,obv still a student,at home with parents/guardians the main thing you need to think about is will you still be intrested in a few years time? also as you grow up your going to becoem more social, guna start drinking maybe, going out with mates etc will you have the time? as my dad always tells me he doesnt want to be stuck with my pets becuase i cant be bothered to look after them. im not saying you will neglect these snakes, but you also need to think into the future,i realy doubt you can take them to your university if you, plus as i said maybe your parents dont want thier home invaded with reptiles! my dad has said no more once i get my new royal in a few weeks,so thatll make it 2 lizards and a snake, only 2 vivs, all kept in my room, not too big either so they will deffo be able to come with me when i move out! sorry if this was realy long winded etc but hope its food for thought mate cheers, kris |

i have spoken to him on msn and he lies and doesnt know much valid info.
I have tried telling him that with less than a years worht of herp keeping why get a boa or large python? i am nearly 16 and i just got myself a small(3 foot) red tail boa but I am a large lad and living on a farm i am fairly strong. By getting it small i feel that i can 'get to know the snake' and therefore be comfortable handling it as adult size. I work in a herp store and have help retics and large burms and i struggle. we also have 07 bcc females which are already 3 or 4 feet which means that for a 12 year old to get say a boa it could reach 6 feet by the time he is 14 and could esily over power him even if its not intentional. I really thinmk you should get more expereince wqith larger snakes. volunteer at a reptile store or something as you will gian valuble experience. After working in a reptile store for about a year and getting experience my boss let me have a boa for 2 months on a 'test ride' and i thought I would be able to continue owning him. you also have to find the right snake for you kieran. I knew boas were the snake for me however they are not for everyone and after holding a retic, burm and dwarf retic(adults and babies of course) re-consider and think it over. if you got a burm could you deal with a snake that could potentially be 15 foot+ by the time you are 16..... not even i feel comfortably with a snake 10 foot + even if one or 2 other guys are there. with a snake 12 foot+ 3 people should be there when handling. would your mum and dad bth be willing to sit there with you and a large snake for half an hour a day? and even then if it bites and contstricts someone 3 people couild struggle to get it off. i really think you should think this over and maybe go for another large but pretty much harmless snake like pine and bull snakes.
