Default how does this shop get away with it !!!

ok i live in ilkeston in nottingham/derby (right in the middle) and there is a shop local in a place called codnor ... (name of shop will not be given in here.. only via PM) they have been shut down countless times for neglect of animals - poor conditions.. dead animals in cages etc...

and i havent been in there for a while just on principal on how they keep their animals....

i recent met sum1 who said "its not how the shop keeps them its how you keep them after youve bought them" so decided to go to this shop and mabey "liberate" a snake or 2 .... but walked away again..

corns kept on sand... when asked.. aparently corns come from the desert (must be why their viv was at over 95oC then...

and 2 rat snakes in a tank... LOL 1 rat was obviously boiga dendrophilla (black and yellow mangrove) i have a pic on my phone but doesnt show up too well... this is obviously well fed.. ill give them that.. but are being kept on bark chips with no moisture except the water bowl... i had a look at the snake wich i was shown by a child... could of been no older than 10 !!! but i got it from the tank... and he was telling me how its a rat snake from texas and how they sell really well and how they are perfect for a beginer snake ... :S i then spoke to the "boss" who rang the reptile specialist to come back from tesco wich he did.. and he assured me it was a rat snake... i then showed him the pic on my phone of my old boiga and he changed his mind.. then walked off...

no lables were changed or anything.. some person is gonna buy a ratsnake.. thinking its gonna be placid.. and its gonna bite them and f**k them up...

im sick of reporting this shop for its keeping conditions because they never stay shut.. and the prices are ridiculously high (£65 for hatchling normal corn) so cannot help by buying any !!

how the hell does he stay open !

peace

James

I don't know how shops like this keep going and get away with blatent cruelty but they do!!
When I had my shop a stupid stupid woman reported my guinea pigs to the RSPCA because they were squeaking! Anyone who knows anything about gp's know they are dreadful squealers but the RSPCA came and looked at everything in the shop and just put it dowm to ignorance on her part. So I really don't understand how some shops just get away with it all the time.
Do you thinks its because the general public don't understand the diversity of reptiles and therefore places like this don't get reported as often as they would were they selling little furry bunnies etc in these sort of conditions?
All councils have someone responsible for pet shop licenses and the upkeep of standards, so might be better if you report the shop thro the council, after all no license no business.
I know how you feel though you just want to take them all home but of course you can't. Christine

I know this shop very well, I am from Nottingham originally and have not been in this shop for about 16 years. I seem to remember they used to have some kind of big cat they kept out the back???
I bought a kitten from there in 1990 as he was obviously too young to be away from his mum and I know it only perpetuates them but i couldnt leave him.

I also nearly bought a blue headed amazon parrot as it was kept on a rusty cage on the floor in the fish room, anyone who knows about parrots know they feel secure when placed high up and need light not dark all day, consequently he was beginning to pluck his own feathers out.

I resisted but as have many people reported them to the RSPCA.

I cant understand why its not shut down once and for all.

Sadly you cannot close down a dive like this shop permanently. I have seen this happen before with a shop in Reading. They had a 4 foot bosc in a 2 foot tank, head and neck up one side of the viv, tail up the other. A tank of imperial scorps and when I asked to see them, DRAGGED the hide across the tank, to be told "looks like they've all been sold". The worst? A tank of snakes advertised as "asian red headed grass snakes". They were in fact red necked keelbacks, Rhabdophis subminiatus, a DWA species. When I pointed this out to the shop owner, I was told "Suppose I should stop selling them to kids then."
I reported the shop, all that happened was they closed, moved across the road and opened again under a different name! Same staff, same shoddy husbandry.

All that happens when a rubbish shop is closed is they move to a new premises and apply for a PSL under a different name.
