thanks guys,

she (the corn snake) is in a 3ft viv heated by a ceramic bulb. the temps in the hot end are often 24'c. on 4 occasions i've tried to tell my friend this is not hot enough.

i've given them a number for the local vet so hopefully they'll go. they don't have the net at the moment but i did read a care sheet out to her over the phone. i also thought it could be an R.I but just wanted to check with people on here. before reading this i told her to get the temperature up and call the vets.

thanks for the advice

(also, can someone with corns clairfy what temp the hot end should be please

Hi Angel,

I am assuming that a stat is being used to control the temps as otherwise with a ceramic the viv would be much hotter.

I do believe with the hot end being at 24c there is every chance that it is an RI infection that requires the treatment of a Vet. The temp at the hot end needs to be raised to 28c to 30c maximum at present in order for the corn to get better, and this will need attending to before treatment from the Vet, as other wise the antibiotics won't take effect at all, and will be a pointless waste of time, and the snake could become even more ill.

Please let them know that antibiotics do kill off the snakes natural good gut flora at the same time as the nasty bugs, so some 'Reptoboost' or similar probiotics in the snakes water after treatment has been completed will correct this, and give their snake an added boost.

Mo.

Mo, I don't pretend to know lots about Corns, but will they get RI's at 24 degrees? They are a North American species after all and are used to more temperate climates.

Yes, Mo's quite right 24 is too low as a 'hot end' temp though and really should be raised.

You should also check with him to make sure he's using a thermostat, as they are NOT an 'option'.
