Default Neonate Green tree python

Hi guys

A few questions if anyone can help.

1. I feed my 3 month old one pinkie a week but when I fed him tonight immediately after eating he was showing hunting behavior. Should I try him on fuzzy’s now? Or feed him more than one pinkie? Or is he just greedy?

2. He has creases in his skin when he is coiled round a branch, do you think this could be dehydration?

Thanks

1. If he can manage that, in size compasent to his girth (largest section) then yes.

2. Could be signs of dehydration, what humidity % have you got in his vivarium.

Agreed. Im slightly concerned. Regarding the higher knowledge of husbandry needed for GTP's, Im slightly worried your not sure about feed size items.

a pinkie about every ten days should do for a while. it shouldn't really make a lump in it right after eating.... humidity for a baby should be very high as they dehydrate much faster than adults.... after eating, looking for another prey item is normal... don't try to pump them with food... keep the prey items small... make sure it poos.

i wouldnt be tempted to overfeed - you can put them off their fodder - I would wait til next time and offer a fuzzy - they are not much bigger anyway.

In terms of humidity - what type of container is the snake in - what substrate, what heating and how often do you spray. - also are sure the snake isnt coming up to shed?

Vertical creases when coiled around the branch could indicate that it's due for a shed. The big no-no is horizontal creases along the body, definite sign of dehydration. If you post the temps, humidity etc and a pic, then people will have more to go on. As a rule of thumb, as said earlier, feed prey items the size of the snakes maximum girth and if it goes for several feeds (I usually go for 3) without defecating, hold off on the food.

i have had loads of neonate GTPs that culdial lure just after feeding, it just means that they are in their hunting mode. I have had some snakes that do it each night when the lights go out, it is more common for younger snakes to do it regularly.
Dont over feed your snakes, stick to the normal feeding schedule e.g. food size same as the thickest part of body every 5-7 days (5 days gap up to a year old then 7 days after a year is about normal).

Just a thought - consider getting a copy of Greg Maxwells book The More Complete Chondro - it is the bible of GTP husbandry
