Default Would this be OK?

Hi during the winter the bulb in my royals 2' viv wasnt heating the place up properly, only to about 28c, so I had a 1kw oil heater on in the background which worked well... until I saw the bill.
When I move him to a 3' this year which is gonna take a bit more to heat up im not gonna be able to use the oil heater anymore so im stuck as what to do. I was thinking of putting another bulb fitting in the viv, but I wanted to check if there is any reason I shouldnt do this that Imight have missed.
Taking the royal out of my room isnt really an option as the only way my parents let me have a snake is if its in my room.

its a 40w spot bulb, I know it shuld heat up a 3' but atm it struggles with a 2' but that isprobably due to the temperature in my room. on average about 15c in winter.

If you get a higher wattage bulb and put it through a thermostat it should be fine. I would have said a 100 watt bulb through a thermostat would do the job

Are you using a red bulb? Try a ceramic, they kick out masses of heat! Just have to keep an eye on the hygrometer though as they seem to dry things up a bit

Your options - heat mat, higher wattage bulb, ceramic bulb. All of them will need a thermostat, the lights will also need cage guards. Assuming you are already using a light that has a thermostat and a cage guard you may be able to switch fairly easily to a higher wattage or ceramic. If you have neither, using a heat mat is a cheaper option. A heat mat for a 3 ft viv will be about 20w max - that's a lot less than a 1kw oil heater! Even if you're using a 100w bulb or ceramic that's still 1/10th of the energy output.
