The snakes instinct is to eat on many occasions when they realize they are dying from starvation, in order to reverse the situation, but by the time they have taken this action it is too late in most cases as the little amount of energy they have left by then is not enough to be able to fully digest the meal, and their death arrives sooner. However a good balanced liquid feed, along with vitamins, amino acids, electrolytes etc, can in lots of cases work in their favour, and see them go from strength to strength, as the ingredients of the mixture above boosts their system and gives it the strength to absorb the food tubed at the same time, and so they gain overall, and much faster anyhow than if their digestive track has to work over time using bags of energy that they don't have trying to break down the solid food.

Just seen your retraction , but still glad I have explained a little of why a starving snake would try to eat solid food.

I should also add here that the first part of your statement 'If it was dying feeding it a mouse would not have saved it', Is correct in most cases as already explained in my earlier post.
