this is very true, perhaps a specific licence for big boids would be an alternative, where you would have to register the snake you bought - free of charge - but the possibilty of having a "routine check" would make anyone think twice about the possible consequences of buying and failing to house/treat the snake properly?

True. But this means more jobs, more work for council/goverments. And Im sure they can't be arsed. And how would the routine checks work, Would there be one "inspector" in each county/country? As if County, Im sure there is enough specialised for the post.

It's a funny one, But I think it all comes down to Education and the Breeders/Shops themselves. I think more preperation is a must, but then again, This could go agaisnt the shop owner/breeder if they feel there not sufficient for a giant, and the reputation then goes to pot.

Theres always going to be the selfish lot who are going to want a giant snake, but that being said, there are genuine snake keepers who have them for their what they are, not a show piece.

Depends on the area. You apply to your local council. Im not to up on it, But I'll find a thread for you, As I want to know exactly myself.

From what I remember you pay for the DWA and a Percentage of Something To A Vetinarian Inspection or something. But Yeah, I'll find something.

Hmm I personally think that having big snakes put in the DWA will be good for the little kids who want brums etc and could be safer but At the same time, if it was up to me I would personally not put them under DWA

if a specific post for the job was created, one per county may be sufficient. but as you say, the pay etc for someone to go round checking on peoples snakes is probably something that will not be budgeted for. i reckon it would solve the problem to a certain degree though.

Yeah, I Also agree. How often would a check fall under? And what would they be checking for?

I Still think most of it comes down to the seller, be that a breeder or a Shop owner. I think that every pet shop, regardless of what animal they want, be that a cornsnake, Anaconda, or a Baearded Dragon should quiz them before doing so. Instead of going for a quick sale and getting an animal of their back.

Thats my attitude towards it anyway, regardless if its a giant snake or a harmless cornsnake.

It would be depressing for it to happen. They are too many owned by people for them to be put on DWA.

like we previously said, a sale is a sale to some people unfortunately, although maybe reptile shops should be kept under a "mystery shop" scheme as most retail companies are nowadays. this doesnt stop the potential breeders who are "in it to win it" though.

a check should be made up of something like - A) housing, substrate and temperature B) a feeding/shed record (this could be faked but not knowing if an inspector is going to check would deter that for the most part) C) are the cages kept locked to aid in theft prevention. i know that there'd be a 101 reasons for and against it but it'd make the owners more accountable if the worst come to the worst.

DWA Prices by county (2006)

There Ya Go

Personal Liability Insurance is needed also, Aswell as Insurance on the Animals themselves I Believe. It's not something cheap!
