Default Whats this bout large snakes being moved to DWA

Just heard from the grapevine that retics and burmese are being moved to DWA soon. Has anyone else heard this or is it just hearsay?

The DWA list was reviewed last october and there are no plans to review it again.

I've been told by a good friend of mine that the DWA list as it stands is being scraped and a new list made. Not sure what's going to be on the new list though.

i think that retics, burmese, rocks and anacondas etc should be put onto the DWA. i don't want to stir up a hornet nest here BUT it would stop your average joe going into see mr reptile shop owner and coming home with a 2 foot long burm, not realising how big its going to actually get (or worse thinking its just going to be a "cool" pet when its bigger) - thus in 2 years time it ends up in a cramped box and becomes another case of neglect.

thats not to say that all large boid owners or even shops would do this, but how many threads are on here about 14 year olds (apologies to the responsible ones i know you are on here!) being sold a burm/anaconda quite merrily ?? anyone can say "well the shop should be more responsible" but in reality a sale is a sale to some people - having to have a licence to own one would definitely reduce the problem.

If it did, And I very much doubt it, There will be hundreds of snakes dumped/rescued as the owners will not be wanting to pay for a License, when they havent needed to in the past.

i cant see how they could just put them on the dwa list without a good reason , i know there are some good arguments for them going on but there have been no deaths from them recently to justify any change
