Default Medium sized boids

Im looking into getting a pair of medium sized boids though i can only think of carpets, bloods, and dwarf boas. I know its still early (for me anyway) but surely there are more commonly available. Just cant think! Being a bit thick

do you mean girth or lenght because out of those girth wise it would be bloods then dwarf boas but from what i understand carpets get longer and arn't quite as girthy.

really cant think of anymore but then you have a good selection with those.

Just general mass i guess just thought of dwarf retics and burms but doubt i could afford an adult pair of those. Oh and dumerals, maddy grounds and rainbows.

Something that can fit comfortably into 4x2x2 viv? Out of the 3 in the OP i do prefer the bloods. Big and fat

A adult bood would be fine in a 4x2x2 if you decide to get a blood all you need to do is decide what locality you want. Not to sure on housing for the others to be honest so won't guess it.

I must admit i would love a dwarf burm as it would be less space and easier to house just the pirce at the moment.

I would love a dwarf retic but their a bit pricey too

Anyway i see im talking to a blood keeper. Ive had my eye on these for a while but never really known what to expect if i got one? Some web sources say they hissy others say they are very snappy others say they are soppy. Is it just a case of pot luck and how you treat it? or is there a valid reason for any of the reputations.

I do like the look of the Sumatran bloods or the Malaysians. Any good sites on the genus or books?

Blood Pythons, and Short-Tailed Pythons are an excellent species to work with, they are very rewarding.

With regards to their temperament, it is down to the individual animal, out of mine, I only have one who I would regard as snappy. The rest, may let off a hiss, but once picked up, they're fine. I may add, the assumptions made about them being snappy, and aggressive, descended from the first WC Blood Pythons, they were understandably scared and defensive. You'll also need to learn how to handle a Blood, they are much different to most other snakes.

If you source a nice, captive bred Blood, you can't go wrong. They are also excellent feeders once they have started!

Website wise, PM me and I'll drop you a link for a Blood Python forum!
VPI are currently writing the third helping of their "Pythons Of The World" books, focussing on Blood Pythons, I myself am writing a small, informative book, but I have no estimate to completion!

I looked at one for ages basically looked on a few forums mainly american for a idea of keeping them as i have found books are limited and only contain the basics and taxidermy of them.

as for the reputation thta comes from wild caught individuals but they can be hissy mine does quite alot and will let you know if she's not happy. they just need handling really then they wil get use to you.

A person to speak to would be dave ( akua_ko_nalu) on here he knows his bloods not to mention will have some red bloods ready soon.

bloods got a bad rep because years ago they were all wc,some can still be hissy but its mainly bluff,i think all the bloods look stunning esp the blacks(waiting for my black to start feeding before i can go n get him).
im getting a male, there is such a difference betweeen the male and female parents of the one im gettting, shes got about 2/3 times the girth of the male ang a little bit longer!
