theres a lot of difference in size and girth of both those. Im my opinion a columbian would be best to start with. They have lovely patterns when small then when they're adults turn a rich chocolate colour, Ive not owned one but from what ive seen in other people's they are very friendly snakes and a managable size too

as roewammi says, a common boa gets a bit bigger than a columbian rainbow, I have a common and a brazilian rainbow, both are 08 hatchlings and are both beautiful. Neither is hissy or in the least bit aggressive, and take handling calmly. I will be getting a columbian rainbow in my collection in the near future. See if you can find someone with some adults you can look at and possibly handle, this will give you some idea of what you will have a few years down the line.

i personally prefer the common boas as i think they have beautiful colours , but they can get a fair size bigger than the crb

BCI every time mate! they are much easier to care for and dont need as high humidity as columbians and also are much cheaper animals to start with £50 compared to £? and to be honest i prefer the look and temprement to BCI's!

5 year old BCI at 11.5 feet!

It should be pointed out that both those pictures above are of exceptionally large individuals, especially the 13ft individual.

8 to 9ft would be more normal for a female
