Default Carpet python help

Hi

I am currently feeding my IJCP one Jumbo mouse every 7 days. Last feed she just followed the mouse where ever i moved it but wouldnt strike at it. I tried to feed her 3 days later with a smaller mouse and she just did the same.

Any Ideas anyone?

Cheers

As she"s fed for you before and you obviously know what your doing, this probably wont be it, but just wondering if your mice are warm enough? If she doesnt take it when you offer, have you tried leaving it in with her overnight? Sure somebody will be along with some great suggestions soon!!

I defrost the mice in warm water so should be warm enough. Havent tried leaving the mouse in over night, tried for a few hours but she doesnt seem interested, she always strike feeds so not too sure if shes interested if its just left in there not moving.

You shouldn't be dangling the mouse in his face for hours! That could be putting him off. With mine I normally try to strike feed for a couple of minutes at most and if they don't take it I drop it in the viv and give them their privacy. Some snakes don't like to eat in front of people.

I think he meant leave the mouse in the tank for a few hours....
Nothing to worry about if the snakes healthy..nothing to worry about - they can go ages without food...just keep a eye on him.

And you probably would be right about him not touching it if you just left it in his viv! I"v noticed that with my Royals...if they dont strike, and take right away, then they will just sit and stare at the mouse, when left with them in the viv. If it doesnt move, it"s of no intrest. As said, try not to worry, im sure your carpet will come around!!

I dissagree with the above my royal started with strike feeding and now wont eat unless i leave it for him as he wont strike now.

Any how back onto carpets id suggest you leave her for a week as you have prob caused some stress by trying to get her to strike for a couple of hours. Should only try for a few mins then drop into viv and leave them alone.

Dont quote me but i think i read somewhere that some carpet pythons do better if you miss a feed every now and then (depending on age).So for example if you feed every 7 days. feed them for 3 weeks then give the carpet a week off so 14 days till fed. Just gives them time to digest proper and burn off the food. I will try find the article with this info for ya. If you want any more help just pm me mate

Cheers Rob

You funny man just for people like you then lol

If you give her a week off it means your gonna feed her on say a sat. Then you would be meant to feed her next sat but dont so there for she has had 14 days to work it off
