once again its all about preference. Alot of people will tell you not to and others say its fine. But like i said every snake is individual and every case different. the only way to justify this would be to monitor the snake and go from there.

a healthy snake is a happy snake and vise versa just use your judgement

Needless to say all snakes are different and yours may not take to it. My opinion although probably dif to everyone elses is try it out. Gice the snake a week. If its feeding and exploring ok and will allow you to handle without always scurrying away then you will be fine.

In mine i have two hides one and each end, a log in the middle which the snake can hide under, lots of foliage to hide under and a moss box.

your snake will tell you very quickly if it likes it or not with body language, feeding habits and behaviour
Id agree with this...try it out...and see how you go??

So is it ok to bung in a load of wood and leaves etc from stuff lying around the garden, or is it best to use sterile stuff?

bluerain, I'd somehow missed that post from kopiteleachy. Cheers for that, and to kopiteleachy of course, even if I have to copy/paste your name.

I suppose one way to think of it is that when reptiles of are born/hatch out in the wild etc the world is much bigger than a 4ft viv could ever be (even if they do confine themselves to a 6 inch square space LOLOL).

I'm no expert but some of these posts about vivs being too large, do make me wonder what snakes do in the wild?

Just grabbed some foliage stuff from the garden, can't imagine there'd be many species of indigenous parasites that can live on both leaves out in the open and corn snakes.

Found a nice length of Field Maple lying at the bottom of me wood pile and have just cut it up. It had plenty of dirt on it, so brushed it off, then sat it in the bath and poured a kettle of boiling water over it.

I'm going to give it a go moving into larger viv.

Today was feeding day, and Ian ( if it turns out to be a girl) has had his mouse, that's why I waited until today to make sure it got a good meal before moving, just in case it starts refusing food afterwards. I've read that it's not good to disturb them after eating, so how long after its last meal should I leave it before attempting the move? I've got no idea if we're talking hours, or even days.

Apologies for asking so many questions.

TIA

once it's eaten you should leave it alone for at least 24-48hrs until the bulge has fully been digested. the things you got from your garden you'd be better off putting them in the oven for a couple of hours or so at about 100 degrees to make sure there's nothing on or in it to harm your snake, I can see what you mean about things living on plants here and what would normally live on a corn snake but you'd be surprised how easy mites are to pick up, also I don't know if you know already but you should not use any pine or cedar or anything made from these woods as the oils are toxic to reps. otherwise so long as there's plenty of hiding spaces in the bigger viv I don't see it's be too much of a problem but you'll have to keep an eye on him and if he's stressed by it or stops eating you may have to move him back until he's grown a little and feels safer.
