Talking Some quick questions about Royals!!!!

Hi all,

im considering getting a royal/ball python and i just have a few quick questions on them,

can more than 1 be kept together?

would a 4.5ft(L)x2ft(D)x2.5ft(H) be a good size for 1/2? or would it be too big?

and if anyone has any, what are they like to keep??

thanks Jord

Yes they can, whether or not they should is a longer debate.

Too big in my opinion, especially if you're talking about a hatchling.

Wonderful, although they don't appreciate handling as much as other snakes.

thanks Jord
Hope that helps, sure others will have inputs soon.

thanks mate, much appreciated

i was thinking 1 viv for life, and im in the middle of converting a wardrobe that size atm lol,

if a royal isn't the best sized snake for that viv, any other suggestions??

i really want a royal tho lol, i can always shorten the length of the viv and place a cuboard on the end, take off around 1ft? so it would be 3.5ft, would that be more suitable?

just divide your viv up. i've done it with all mine while they're young. they all get the size suited to their age. easily changed at any time. very easy to do.

You could do that and then partition it off until it was ready for the full 3.5'.

royals needs to be kept in small vivs and moved up. i wouldnt personally put anything but a very large female in a four foot tank, they prefer feeling secure. if you're intent on putting a adult in the, use alot alot of hides.
royals can be kept together but not recommended,. again if your intent make sure theyre being fed properly!

basically everyone will tell you different, i started asking everybody for advice but everyone does it differently. a few months down the line your realise your way !

good luck!!!

That is a good idea, do they need at least 2ft in height in a viv??

i was thinking could take off 1.5ft from the length, and maybe add some shelves in the new space, possibly for RUBs while they are smaller??

als thought if they dont need 2ft in hieght, i could half the viv so ther is 1.25ft in height of each viv? mayb house 2?? surely this height would be acceptable as they woun't get near this in a RUB?

i just throwing ideas out here to see what you all think lol.
