If it is in the house I can't find it although not that keen on sorting out the pile of clothes in the airing cupboard, which incidently is next to the back door.

Might invite an unsuspecting friend round for that one

Hi QJM
Sorry to hear about your dog.
Adders preferred habitats are heaths and open land. They are not great lovers of wet areas or streams and ponds. You are more likely to get harmless grass snakes around wet areas, so if this is an adder bite, you have been very unlucky to get one in your house.

As for searching for it, where abouts in the country are you? There are lots of people around the country that know what they are doing when dealing with and handling venomous snakes. It would be worth tracking down one of them and getting them to check your house over for you.
