Exclamation poorly rip :(

he hadn't eaten for nearly 6 weeks,
id tried all the tricks in the book...

- dipping it in chicken soup
- dipping it in tuna oil
- feeding a rats tail / chick's leg
- putting the mouse head in his mouth to start it off
- piercing the mouse's brain
- putting it in warm water to thaw and get my scent off
- checked temperature in viv
- he's got a hide so he shouldnt feel insecure
- rubbing dead pinkie on some of my mice's fur..

but today, after every failed attempt,
even though it hasnt been as long as they can go without eating, i had to force feed him.
pushed the pinky head into his mouth and eased it in until his mouth shut.
he didn't like it and it took several attempts as he kept shaking it out.. but eventually... finally.. it's in, and he's digesting it.
i feel so horrible, but with him being so young and with me stressing over him being so thin i thought i had to do something

sorry if i sound like some psycho who force feeds snakes for fun lol i can assure you it wasn't fun.

anyone got any other tips i could try next week?
i dont want to have to do that again if i can avoid it.

xxx

to be honest id rather not have to deal with the seller again and i definitely don't want to lose him in transit again.
i'll do whatever it takes to make him eat.
im not bothered about the money, i just want him to be ok
at least he's had something now,
i can imagine his poor scaley tummy was rumbling.
ive bought over 12 pinkies over the weeks trying all these methods! lol

it just seemed there wasn't anything else i could do
i pushed it down with a clean white straw which was tiny, not sharp and able to guide the pinkie's bottom in until rip's mouth closed.

i did it slowly and tried to do it at the pace id seen him eat his first and only pinkie.
slow with a few pauses so he could get used to it being in his mouth, but being careful not to leave it stationary for too long so it didnt restrict his breathing while it was in his mouth etc...

meh, poor thing..
xx

havent followed previous threads , but unless rip is a hatchling corn or similar , leave force feeding well alone ! its a last resort . iv had to force feed before & its not fun for you or your rep . most snakes can go a lot longer than you think without food (hatchlings exc)

i boiled it tonight and it didn't work
i always boil it to thaw through,
i even ding it sometimes in the microwave lol hehe.

he is a hatchling yes
i just don't know what to do,
he really shows NO sign of being interested in food, not even sniffing it,
i rub his nose over it and things and shake it in front of him as if it's live etc...

i'd rather force feed than feed live
and i know if show's no interest in my live pet mice he won't care that a little one's wriggling..
and then another pinkie will have died in vain

put a pinky in a bowl. start with the water cold and keep the pink in there until it is properly boiling.. have you tried it that way? i havent yet, but the person who told me swears by it.
