Default Feeding isues

Yeah I know it's usually Royals but I'm having a real problem with one of my 18mth old female Hogg Island Boas. She's gone right off feeding and hasn't so much as struck at food since the end of January. She is shedding fine and doesn't appear to have lost a tremendous amount of weight. She is still strong and active but hasn't responded to any of the usual methods although her litter sister is an absolute pig and has never missed a feed and is about twice the weight and longer by about six inches. They have been happily housed in one four foot viv but I'm in the process of getting them separated so that may make a difference. She has suffered at the mouth of the other boa and has a couple of bite scars which she got at the tale end of last year but they have healed up well and with each shed show less and less. Do you think that this might be a stress issue and that once separated leave her alone for a week or so and try feeding again? There's always one isn't there!!

could well be a stress/dominance thing.

Failing that check temps, humidity etc etc

Sorry, but I don't think they are "living happily together" - evidence being the bites and the fact that the smaller one is A LOT smaller than the bigger one (unless of course she is actually a he). They are competing for the best basking sites etc and the bigger one is winning and it looks like bad news for the other. Better to separate straight away before you have a dead snake.

Seperate them.

The bites are a pretty good indication that you really shouldn't house them together.

The stress build up could be the cause.

i spent 10-20mins trying to get our hoggie to strike at a small mouse, swapped it for a fluff which was almost the same size and he hit it after about 3 seconds

If they were mine, I would first of all separate them. give them a few days to re-adjust. Then offer a smaller food item. Dont worry about them not eating just yet, just owrry about how they are feeling, sharing their sh**ing ground with someone else. Somepeople have been successful at getting snakes to live together, but they are few and far between. those who have had disasters far outweigh them.

BUMP

Success guys. Moved the smaller boa to a nice 4ft viv last Friday. Offered her food tonight and she ate two rat weaners, note I dropped the size of prey item. Hopefully within a few weeks she'll be knocking back something bigger. Her sister pigged out on a large rat so no change there then!!!
Thanks for the suggestions they worked a treat, no more bullied snake.
